This is a wonderful shrub to have in your yard to attract butterflies and hummingbirds. It blooms in the spring and summer all long but as soon as we get to fall and winter it dies back but always comes back again In spring as it has some mulch around the bottom of it. good price for it also.

Does it attract bees? Wife is allergic.

I have these and don't notice and increase in the number of bees visiting my yard, only butterflies, but I already have many bees come over for my Citrus tree flowers and Sunflowers but this plant is good for her because if any bee comes into your yard they will go to the plant and ignore her!

Mine was shipped from east coast to west coast via UPS ground. I was nervous and ready to file for a refund but it came well packaged and in a relatively good shape (considering), with only a few dropped leaves and little spilled soil. It is still in the 2 Gal pot it came in and thriving despite the season change. They play dead in the winter but come back after. Get as many varieties as you can!

Would it live through the winter in that pot until spring?

I would say if you get hard freezes at all bring it in, garage or shed would be fine, just keep in mind to occasionally give it a little water. If your temps are borderline freezing wrapping in towels or blanket should protect it. With it being in a pot it doesn't get the same protection a plant that is in the ground.

They don't handle frost well, less so in a pot. I bring them into the garage on frost nights and if I plant them I'd put mulch around the base. Left it in the pot for now to let it recover from the shock of the trip!

I'm allergic too. Bees don't want to sting you unless you really piss them off because they'll die. I've had my hands in flower beds with lots of bees buzzing around. What you need to watch out for are yellow jackets etc. Those guys are bastards, but generally don't feed off flowers.

This Chinese shrub is not good for native butterflies; get a variety that is a host plant for the butterflies in your region.
