Even if cloud access were to be discontinued in the future, would this still operate in basic mode using physical buttons, allowing them to clean and return to their docks autonomously?

If so, how limiting would that make this device as I am considering one - I just can't justify spending much more than around $200 one.

The only Roombas worth buying are the older i, j, and s series Roombas, which are great for those who refused to use Chinese IoT devices.
These newer models are designed and manufactured by a Chinese company, and they require a totally different Roomba Home app, which tells you everything you need to know. Might as well buy a robotic vacuum from a Chinese brand than buying these newer Roombas.

With the recent bankruptcy filing it's hard to say what would happen with these. They may end up being bricks. New buyer who knows what they'll do..

They've already been acquired by their main manufacturer and they said they'd continue updating the app etc

From my experience, yes these would continue to work. They're lest sophisticated than even the ones 7 years ago, but you'd be able to turn them on and they'd bounce around til they're low on battery/full. You just wouldn't have access to the scheduling and rules. But based on another comment, it sounds like the app's future is fine, for now.

I've been following IRBT, the stock since March. They made it clear they were going to declare bankruptcy. I own an iRobot Roomba i4+ EVO. I would not touch one of their products until they sort things out, which might be the first quarter in 2026. There is no guarantee the app or customer service will be around a year from now.
