Windows 10 is out of support. I suspect it can be updated, but interesting a refurb isn't with current OS

Newegg misspelled: This is a "thin client." Not designed to run disconnected from server. Think remote desktop on dedicated laptop

I don't think this is an actual thin client. This is more of a thick client. Not a joke.

With a full OS and reasonable specs it can run stuff on its own.

The CPU is kind of old and doesn't support TPM 2.0. So it cannot be upgraded directly into Window 11 via windows update. But it can be done manually (there are some online guidelines for it.)

I believe if you do it manually, windows doesn't get updates or is that wrong?

edit: looked up, it won't get the major yearly updates automatically but you can do manually

🤮 4 core / 4 thread cpu from almost 8 years ago...
🤮 8gb of ram
🤮 Windows 10 is not supported anymore by Microsoft.
If you are competent, you could easily:
👍 Upgrade ram. (2 slots)
👍 Upgrade storage. This originally shipped with SATA m.2 drives... Doesn't specify what is currently installed.
👍 Install Windows 11 (IYKYK) or Linux.

Ryzen 3 2300U is a pretty ancient chip (7 years old). I would just buy a used machine at this point.

This is basically a EliteBook/ProBook 645/745 G5 laptop/chassis repurposed as a thin client, released around mid-2018. Thin clients model tend to be in production for 2 years or more so the battery could be newer.

Zen 1 CPU is comparable to many 8th gen Core i5, like that (expired) $140/$160 HP EliteBook 840 G6 i5-8365U from Woot but with less RAM.

Personally I'd look for a EliteBook/ProBook G7 Zen 2 that is much faster and price is still reasonable (HP G6 uses Zen+ CPU that isn't much faster than Zen 1 but you do get native W11 compatibility).

Except when Microsoft randomly blocks your machine from receiving updates because it's not supported. It's happened to me and some friends of mine. It sucks. You basically have two options. Reinstall windows again and try to make the updates work again knowing this will probably happen once a year. Or just accept it's gonna never get an update again at sometime in the near future.

Ok, so use a good operating system then.
