I was not familiar with ZeroWater products or why you would need 12 filters at a time. Then I read they are rated for 15 gallons. Yikes. But it appears they filter everything out including minerals so the must be costly to manufacture.

Yes, but most will get more than 15gal. I use a cheaper filter as a pre filter and sometimes get up to a couple hundred gal.

Each filter lasts only 2-3 weeks. Thats why you need 12 pack. Its expensive dealing with zero water pitcher. Although it filters microplastic it again stores in a plastic storage which on usage releases microplastics again into filter water.

It depends on where you are. Here in NYC, I bought a 32-cup dispenser in early July and haven't replaced the stock filter yet since the TDS readout is still 0. My daily water consumption is between 48 oz. to 96 oz.(I use a 48-oz. Nalgene to add water into the dispenser), 15 gallons would be like 20~40 days of lifespan. I tested with water filtered with Brita and tap water using the stock ZeroWater TDS meter, each has there readout, which is far from 0.

I am in Arizona and tap water taste is terrible. Can you please suggest the cheaper prefilter so that zerowater can go longer?

Since it removes all the essential minerals, do you add any minerals yourself? Any recommendations?

I'm in a similar boat. I use the RO water system that I have in my house and pour that into the zero water filter and I haven't replaced the filter since February. Just now reading 001 on tds meter.
