Yes, these will drill metal. For aluminum use WD40 so the shavings don't stick to the drill as much. For mild steel, go slowly. Speed will burn up the bit. For stainless, go slow, keep things cooled with water.

Cobalt bits are best for metal drilling.

I don't get dewalt's marketing.

What is so special about a "black and gold" coating?

Is this like titanium from Milwaukee or cobalt from Bosch?

Good deal. Free shipping was available. I don't know if bronze status is the default, but that's all you need to get it for free.

I didn't actually purchase it (but thinking about grabbing it as an extra set) because I thought it was the 14 piece that had the 1/2", but this set only goes to 3/8". Going to wait for the 1/2" set to go on sale again for 10 and pick up 1 or 2 sets.

It was just off the website for a few minutes apparently and came back. Ordered 1 and got free shipping.

Same here. The deal comes and goes, but I was able to snag one with free shipping as well moments ago.

I'm not a fan of these... dealt with them for quite a while until I had enough of the smooth shank on the bottom half spinning no matter how much I tightened them down. Recently bought another set with hex bit ends.

Craftsman has a set with 1/2" bit for $9.98:

There is a good chance that if your cylindrical drill bits are not completely tightening that your chuck assembly to the drill is loose. There is a bolt on the inside of the chuck that affixes the chuck to the drill body. It's usually a buttonhead bolt with a Torx or hex interface and tightens counterclockwise. You might try tightening that after removing to inspect that there is enough threadlock compound on the bolt threads. Coat the threads with blue Loctite (the weaker version) sparingly if necessary.

I don't know what the quality is of those Craftsman, but Dewalt's black and gold are generally the best of the low budget sets. Also, those Craftsman are all smooth shank. The Dewalt have 3-flat shanks on the larger sizes. Thanks for the heads up though 🫡
