256GB SSD in the big 2025 is borderline criminal.

I'm no apple head but I'm a power user and I'd much rather have 1tb, sure. But I'm not sweating storage with over 20tb on my home NAS. 24GB RAM and an M4 at $900 is a crazy deal

I got the $799 16/256 and you're right it was way way too small. I returned it for an open box 24/512 for $930. Very happy!

Apple heads will defend that crap. I have all apple products but 256gb is a joke for what ssd's cost.

It's really not an issue for most. At all. Especially on a device like this that is primarily used for web browsing and emails, despite being capable of so much more.

It's astonishing to me that Apple can put a 256GB SSD in a $900+ laptop, and people still buy it. I guess if you have a very specific use case and have no need for storage, this is fine, but you're paying almost $1000 after tax for storage that is the baseline for economy Windows laptops that sell for nearly 1/4 of this price.

Most $700+ Windows thin-and-light laptops have 1TB drives, sometimes better. People keep buying Apple laptops with small drives, so Apple has no incentive to improve the baseline.

This is really starting to remind me of the Nvidia problem; because people keep buying their cards, Nvidia dragged their feet on VRAM upgrades for the past 5 years, only finally improving desktop 5070 cards to 12GB when it became apparent the cards were struggling at 1440p. The GTX 1070 mobile came out with 8GB VRAM in August 2016. It took 9 years for Nvidia to finally move on VRAM in desktop cards in 70-level cards. But Nvidia still made the sales, so they kept shipping 8GB VRAM cards, even in the midrange. A 5070 mobile with 8GB VRAM in 2025 is a crime.

Keep telling yourself that. I got 256gb and within months it's struggling. If all you need is to browse, you can get something for half the price when the deals come around. Let's stop justifying decisions of large corporations to overcharge and under deliver.you don't have to do that.

Be careful. The apple fanboys will do gymnastics to tell you this is more than enough for whatever the hell they think we all do.

it is very funny that their base model iphone and macbook have the same amount of storage somehow.

I agree that it's probably workable for lots of people via external drive when docked, myself included.

Yeah okay this is pretty ironic and somehow didn't occur to me And I'm an owner of both 17PM and M4 256. I do a lot of dev work and it's a pita to keep offloading storage to the Nas or cloud. Worth it to get a banger device. I switched from Android and Windows a year ago and I'm very happy with that choice.
