I got the Bose QuietComfort SC for $170 from Costco mostly for the noise cancellation. Not sure the $100 extra is worth it for me.

I would say it is worth the $100, better audio, anc, and quality materials.

The SC is great and the ultra isn't $100 better.

anyone compared this with Sony xm6 . Which one has better noise cancellation ? real world experience , like blocking people talking

I'm using both. Bose U2's headband is a little bit tighter and the ear cups are smaller in my case. XM6 form is weird at first but gets better over time plus it's lighter. ANC is great on both. It's more natural on Bose but struggle to block sudden noise (like door closing). On the XM6, strong wind is its weakness (or maybe just mine). My friends told me they could hear me much louder on call through the XM6, yet it's flatter. I use Bose at home/gym and XM6 for trip/calls.

Ultra is good, but other nearly-as-good options can be had for less, and deep plum is obviously not the popular color choice

Like what? Genuine question.
Also, I agree that plum isn't ideal, but I don't find it offensive, so I'd take for $30 less.
