This Legion Pro 7i is a high end 16 inch OLED gaming laptop that stands out most for its RTX 5090, 24GB of VRAM, and strong performance for AI or other memory heavy work. The 240Hz 2560x1600 panel, Ultra 9 275HX, 64GB of RAM, and 2TB SSD make it a very loaded configuration. The main caveats are that it is not a touch screen, and the laptop 5090 is widely framed as closer to a power limited 5080 or 5070 Ti than a true desktop 5090. The $3000 price also draws comparisons to cheaper recent 5080 deals and earlier Lenovo pricing, so the value depends on how much the extra VRAM matters.

Common Questions (4)

  • For gaming, the 5080 and 5090 laptop GPUs are described as fairly close, with the 5090 mainly making sense for AI or other VRAM-heavy workloads. The 5090 model does add 24GB of VRAM, while the 5080 version is repeatedly cited as the better value when it is available.

  • Its performance is described as roughly in the range of a desktop RTX 5070 Ti Super or a desktop RTX 5080 in some specs, but it is power-limited to around 180W. That means it can deliver strong laptop performance without the heat and noise of a full desktop-class GPU.

  • $3000 is described as the lowest Micro Center price seen by some, but also as overpriced compared with prior pricing. Similar configurations were reportedly around $2900 at Micro Center and even lower from Lenovo for a short Black Friday window.

  • No, this Legion Pro 7i configuration is not a touchscreen. That matters if touch input is a must-have, since the panel is a 16" 2560x1600 240Hz OLED focused on gaming rather than tablet-style use.

5080 Model for 2299 was a much better deal.
Agreed. If only for gaming, the performance between the 5080 and 5090 are not that far apart.

I would only pay more for the 5090 if needed for AI workloads or other vram intensive tasks.

I'm getting 140+ FPS on ultra settings on Khazan: the First Berserker (GREAT GAME BTW) on my Lenovo Legion 7i non-Pro Gen 10 with rtx 5070, and can't imagine needing more GPU in a laptop. Same with Cyberpunk 2077 and Black Myth Wukong. Everything I throw at it, with both CPU & GPU undervolted.

I know this is a pointless comment, much like the few comments about how expensive this is, but a high-end laptop in the early 2000s would easily reach $3k and that is not adjusted to inflation.

Computers and other devices like TVs are some of the few things in the markets that are still more affordable now than they were decades ago.

Also I dislike how Nvidia markets their laptop GPUs with the same model names as their desktop GPUs. People will buy this thinking they're getting a true 5090 experience and it's more like a 5070Ti experience. They should come up with different model names for their laptop GPUs.

Depends on what price vs. performance you're after. This is the best deal I've found on a 5090 laptop.

Also, FWIW, the 5080 version is now out of stock in my area and unavailable for shipping.
It says 25+ new in stock in my area.

5070 ti only has 16gb of VRAM. This has 24gb VRAM.

5070 ti has 8960 cores; 5090 laptop has 10496 cores;
This is comparable to desktop 5080 in cuda cores at 10752. Maybe if super had released with 24gb of VRAM, this would be comparable.

In terms of performance, this is power limited so maybe in frame rates and such would be comparable to 5070 ti. But, again you don't want 300w-400w dumped on your lap and a jet engine sound.

Yeah I'm talking about actually usage power. Gaming laptops should always be bought over desktops in special circumstances in my opinion. It just doesn't make sense if you are docking it on your desk 90% of the time.

It's like a 5080 with 24gb VRAM that is power limited to 180 watts.

And the 5080 model for 2000 was a much better deal that that one. https://slickdeals.net/f/18901681-lenovo-legion-pro-7i-laptop-ultra-9-275hx-16-1600p-240hz-oled-rtx-5080-32gb-2tb-2000-free-shipping
Depends if 64GB is important to you. The $2299 64GB model is actually a better deal if you need it, and was also available just a day or two ago before it got removed from the Microcenter site. I got one just in time, it appears. The $2k 32GB model hasn't been available for almost a month.

Actually, still available in some stores, so I'd definitely save the money. The laptop 5090 is not worth the price difference:
