Note: this is the generation of desktop CPUs that were plagued with stability issues.

*edit although it appears that the majority of issues have been fixed with Intel microcode updates and manufacturer bios updates.

Good call mentioning this. Buyers shouldn't have any problems so long as the motherboard got the proper BIOS update, but there are a lot of motherboards out there that didn't get the needed update so those interested should do their research.

Is this something the user can do if it never got the update?

Yes. Every manufacturer released a microcode update that you can apply with a BIOS update, as was required for most people purchasing systems in 2024 (2025, not so much).

At this point, it's very unlikely that you will receive a motherboard without the update, especially if it comes with an RTX 5070 (too new).

And the "refurbished" systems you see are also likely to have this update and the refurbishment process was just to install it. In most cases, the systems are new from the manufacturer, but have to be marked refurbished if they outsourced it to a third party.

Regardless, it's always a good idea to update your BIOS.

OK deal. I think there was a 9070 XT system yesterday on Reddit [skytechgaming.com] for $1400 with similar specs except the CPU is a Ryzen 7 7700. It's slightly slower in games (at 1080p, which is only for esports gamers) but also a lot more power efficient. The 9070 XT is almost identical in raster performance to a 5070 Ti, which is close to 30% faster than the base 5070 and has 16GB VRAM. Skytech also generally uses better quality parts than Cyberpower. (like my CP had Apevia fans and PSU).

Only aircooled is preferred amongst the 10% of us (made that up) who have had an aio cooler leak and destroy a $700 gpu

Had a leak that I caught before it destroyed my computer so I'm partial to air cooling only now

I was looking at this but after some research I saw that they use really cheap power supplies that are known to fail.
