This Sabrent PCIe adapter is mainly a simple way to add an NVMe M.2 drive to an older PC or a board with extra PCIe space, and it can run cool and feel sturdy in hand. Installation is straightforward, though the listed version still uses an M.2 screw instead of a tool less clip system. Boot support depends on motherboard BIOS support, and some older systems may not detect the drive at all, even though it can still work as secondary storage or with Linux and Clover boot workarounds. It is just the adapter, so the NVMe drive is not included.

FYI I bought x4 and x16 PCIe adapters from Aliexpress for $2.59 each back in October and they've been working fine.
Same but from Amazon. I don't know how tariff processing surcharges are affecting Aliexpress order so I didn't go that route but normally would have.

Here's what I got
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093DJ7CBP

Also picked up some 1x PCIE M.2 adapters to take advantage of some PC's that only have a 1X slot available. Not as fast as a 4x slot adapter but still faster than a spinner.

Yep, or even support any M.2 drive in the PCI-e slot. I thought I could clone a Win10 machine from the SATA HD to a M.2 on one of these types of cards in the PCIE card slot. Bios didn't see it, windows 10 didn't see it.

So no only could I not ever boot from one, I couldn't use it as a secondary drive either. This was an 'off network' Win10 Blue Iris install.

Even though your (older gen hardware) WIN10 Machine couldn't see the PCIE/NVME drive, you still have a chance to use it the way you intended on a Linux based system.

I have a Pentium class CPU (really old Dell SC430 from like 2008 era) that back then Dell refused to give you PCIE-16 slots on cheap servers, but I could still use a PCIE slots to put an MVME drive (small 128GB that I repurposed from that COSTCO HP laptop pay for i3 process get an I5 laptop) into one of these cards and used NVME drive as B Cache drive for my NFS Zpool setup. That machine was limited to 2-3 GB RAM but it's great as a home file server. The point is it could still work in Linux even if Windows don't recognize it

Good luck

Only if the older PC supports boot from pci-e slot in the bios settings, though.
Even if it doesn't you can install Clover on a USB stick to make it bootable.

For the experts out there. Apart of this being bulkier, and eventually better for cooling, what is the difference with this one, also on sale? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CQZ6S...title&th=1
The one you linked is advertised as PCIe 5.0 compatible, though I'm not sure if that really makes a difference.

I have an old Gaming PC and want to make bootable SSD. Is this compatible with MSI B85M-P33 motherboard? The MB have 1 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slot and 1 x PCIe 2.0 x1 slot.
I don't think you'll be able to boot from it. I believe the first boards MSI made capable of booting NVMe drives are the Z97 series.

Thanks for response. I did some research, also upgrade to latest firmware released 3/30/2015 and don't see any option in the bios to enable NVMe.

How many gigs is this?
Can't tell if you're joking Lol.. but this is pretty much like an actual enclosure, it goes into Mobo PCIe slots to give you an M2 socket for nVMEs.

Actually you can boot via Clover Bootable drive (requires 1gb or less). I just did it. Google it. It's great.

I bought one of these a week or so ago. I really was pleased with the heft and sturdiness of it. Not a "toolless" design but form and function are stout, something I like under the pressure of installation and something I like for the cooling aspect as well. A great buy IMHO. I bought it to install a second NVMe in the Asus FP deal from Costco last week on the G700 because the massive AMD GPU needed to be removed in order to access my 2nd NVMe slot. But as I decided my actual use would not require me to ever remove it which I had originally wanted to do I went ahead and removed my GPU to install my NVMe onboard. Being careful it went like a dream. I now have this adapter available for use with the 2TB Blue NVMe I just got lucky to get from WM thanks to a SD deal. So I can't attest to operational speeds or anything like that but I think this is a great deal. Gotta love SD for helping me spend money!
