The Lenovo Legion 5 stands out as a strong all around gaming laptop with a bright 15.1 inch WQXGA OLED screen, solid Ryzen 7 260 and RTX 5060 performance, and easy upgradeability. The memory is reported as 16GB in one stick with no soldered RAM, and the chassis also has two SSD slots. The compact 15.1 inch size keeps it close to older 14 inch laptops, while the 80Wh battery and 4.4 pound weight make it reasonably portable. Main drawbacks are the Mediatek Wi Fi 7 card and a USB C charging wake issue. A capable pick if you want a portable gaming machine with room to grow.

Common Questions (5)

  • The stock configuration uses 1x16GB DDR5-5600 SODIMM, and the laptop has two DDR5 SODIMM slots, so the memory is upgradeable. It is not a soldered-RAM design in this configuration.

  • The Ryzen 7 260 and RTX 5060 are described as a strong gaming combo, and the OLED screen is repeatedly called beautiful. At $999.99 with free shipping, it is also noted as a solid all-around pick in the sub-$1500 range.

  • Yes, this configuration has 2 SSD slots, so the included 512GB drive can be expanded with another M.2 SSD. That makes storage upgrades straightforward if you need more space for games or media.

  • The 15.1-inch chassis is described as close in size to older 14-inch laptops, making it relatively compact for a gaming machine. It weighs 4.4 lb, so it is portable but not ultralight.

  • The Wi‑Fi 7 MT7925 card can be poor enough that an AX210 replacement is used instead. USB‑C charging may also fail to resume after sleep, requiring a reboot or unplug/replug to start charging again.

There's so many darn variants of the Legion 5 it's hard to keep track of them all. I swear Lenovo said "ya let's release one for every market" and then just released them all globally to confuse buyers.

Yeah it's not just you. IDK of any with soldered ram, but the fact that there is a "Legion 5" with a 15.3" non OLED screen with otherwise identical specs... except the chassis is also bigger and half a lb heavier? IDK just super weird.

I think they used to have a "slim" designation for their slightly more portable Legion. Now that they took that away it;s pretty confusing.

Got this on the Walmart sale. Same seller. Love the laptop for its upgradability alone. Great screen, good mix of power and speed. 2 issues I've had 1. Garbage mediatek wifi 7 mt7925 junk. 2. Doesn't charge upon wake from sleep from USBC haven't found a fix yet. Reboot or unplug replug is the only way to get it to resume charging. Great laptop. Ordered an ax210 for now.

The 15.1 screen size puts it close in size to older 14" laptops. This is a good all rounder.

Edit: is this a low wattage gpu for compact laptop?
Putting a WQXGA screen at this size is a crime. FHD+ is the sweet spot for laptop screens - GPU's aren't stressed, you still get excellent resolution and you get extra vertical real estate. All the benefits of all those extra pixels are lost on such a small screen.

Agree on the resolution being a little too high. Other than that, this is a good balance of features for the price. Seems to be have been posted several times on SD from several vendors.

This is correct, now it's just "Legion 5/7" and "Legion Pro 5/7". The regular Legions, at least in the case of the 7, are equivalent to the old Slim models.
