I have had two Martin Logan subs and both died after not much use. They seem to have serious quality control issues.

Your $450 would be far far better spent on an RSL Speedwoofer 10S. Google up the reviews and measurements.

Or, once in a blue moon you might be able to find a Klipsch RP1200 on sale at Adorama for that ballpark, or (if you really get lucky) perhaps a Monolith M10. If you don't want to wait and don't want to move up into the $800 range, the RSL 10S (or even its brother the 10e at $340) is a no-brainer.
