I think the Amazon Kids version is the better deal. It's about $15 more with this promotion, but you get 2 years of worry free coverage on it.

Is this still valid? I meet the criteria but I don't see the upgrade option.

I also don't see the "Upgrade Offer," but I do have the standard 20% off with trade-in and if you have one of the above devices, or any other Amazon device, you likely qualify. The price is see is $135 - $27 for the 20% off with trade-in for $108, plus you'll get whatever your device is worth - starting at $5, so technically a better deal though you have to give up a device, so might not be what you want to do.

well technically the trade in discount is available immediately and you can use the discount and not send the trade in device. they will simply deduct the $5 or whatever value they give you initially for your old device as you dont send it in. You could potentially be blocked from using future instant trade in coupons for a few months. I did it few times and no issues.

I'm seeing the offer on my account, but my wife (who just bought a new Paperwhite on BF) is not. She still has the older (not waterproof) Paperwhite and an even older Kindle. I only have the older Paperwhite.

Oh, wow, I hadn't realized you could do that. I'm surprised imthere isn't a penalty. I know the 20% off trade-in offer is once per quarter, so waiting a couple months is standard anyway. Thanks for sharing!

I have the offer , but leaning more towards getting the basic kindle in matcha color as its light weight and screen is crisp compared to paperwhite.I like recessed screen. If you need speed, kobo e-readers are super fast compared to kindles. I have both.

Plus no ads (or having to go through the process of telling them that the device is being used by a kid and begging them to take the ads off).

$5 trade-in (for most models that this would actually be a noticeable upgrade from) ain't slick.

This is for the version with ads on the lock screen. I got the upgrade notice, but I wanted the ad-free version, so I selected that and it offered an upgrade deal for $134. I went ahead and tried to order -- but at checkout, the discount didn't appear.

I actually spent 45 minutes on the phone with Amazon trying to deal with this -- the rep argued at various times that I didn't qualify for the upgrade (I did -- they have my old Kindle registered), that the discount was for a trade-in (it isn't), or that the offer wasn't valid because the Kindle was already on sale. I sent screenshots of the item page showing the discount offer, as well as their own terms and conditions. She talked to a supervisor, which also wasn't helpful. I asked if I could buy the Kindle and have them refund the difference to my account, but that was also a no-go. This may not have been the most frustrating experience I've ever had with Amazon, but it was close.

So I went back and bought the original with-ads version, and the $108 price went through fine.

I think it is 20% off and $5 trade-in.
Edit: Probably misunderstood the meaning. My bad.

its the 20 percent off coupon that matters most.
