According to my records, on 11/14/24 smoke A logged low-battery so replaced with Amazon cells. That detector logged another low-battery on 01/07/25. Replaced with more Amazon cells and it has been happy since then. On 06/28/25 smoke B logged low-battery. Replaced with the last of my Amazon cells. That detector logged another low-battery on 08/03/25. That time I replaced with Voniko cells. We'll see how those do over time.
So, in all, over the last 13 months I've used 12 Amazon cells (in sets of 4) in two different detectors. Two of those sets tripped the low-battery alarm again within two months.
Thing is, all the cells show about 3.06-3.07 volts when I take them out (which given that CR123s are 3V cells, ought to be okay). I asked about this in some battery forums, some people speculated that because our security panel supervises these smoke detectors via an RF link, they might have a brief periodic high current draw and that maybe these Amazon cells don't handle that very well. Dunno.
