You mean b4 government bans TP-Link, CCP used TP-Link devices to launch one of the largest CyberWarfare attacks in US history in March 2024, Volt Typhoon and the other classified ones...water supply systems in several US states so completely compromised they asked for "White Hat" hacker volunteers at DefCon August 2024. Cellular networks so completely compromised they may never be fully recovered, and just launched similar attacks in UK, EU to coincide with PLA live fire drills for Taiwan 2027.

These cams should be compatible with Thingino open source firmware., We've had one user appear with one and it uses the Ingenic T23 processor. Presumably it uses the SC3336 sensor, as Tapo claims it is 3 megapixel and they use that sensor in another device (C110). This is a pretty good price for a pair of 3 megapixel cams, i've ordered some but they're 10 days out. Once I have them, expect a video on the wltechblog youtube channel.

Thingino is a full replacement firwmare for IP cameras based on Ingenic processors, that removes them completely from the manufacturer's ecosystem and allows you to use them with local tools (such as Home Assistant, Frigate, Unifi Protect, Blue iris, anything that works with ONVIF/RTSP). Any concern you may have about TP-Link won't apply if you flash it to Thingino, which is developed publicly on Github.

Interesting firmware - thanks for chiming in.

I think it's worthy to mention if the US gov is actually considering banning their products. CCP is everywhere, constantly abusing and manipulating and must be stopped. Everyone that cries the US gov is equivalent or worse has no clue what a real well organized police state gov is even tho we are taking steps toward it.

Their networking equipment, not home security cam. If that worried throw third-party firmware like OpenWRT on it.

A lot of that talk is trade-war tariff blustering. You can easily reverse engineer/monitor their products and see if there are malicious code in them (there aren't).

Bought 2 sets of these. Works good with ONVIF connectivity to unifi protect. Pan and tilt work only with Tapo app, but still function after I isolated the entire VLAN to local only.

Is there any way to confirm these use the Ingenic T23 SOCs (so Thingino is a possibility)? My understanding, which is very possibly incorrect(!!!), is that the Tapo C210 and C211 models are essentially equivalent electronically except for the case color (C210/white vs. C211/black). So I looked up their FCC docs (start at https://www.fcc.gov/oet/ea/fccid and use Grantee/Product Codes as 2BCGW and C210V2, respectively). Once there, if you examine the internal pics document, it shows the SOC to be a Star SSC333. Of course, they change components all the time so the FCC docs could be out of date...

I guess I am willing to give this a shot given these are 3MP models. At the same time, a 2-pack of the C210 in Used-Like New condition is only $23.18 ($28.99 - 20%) so a few $$$ cheaper. And so if they are the same thing internally/electronically, I'm happy to save a few bucks.

@JoshG3176, sounds like you ordered these--the black C211 version? For the sake of science and community knowledge, I'd be happy to buy the white C210 version with hopes they are indeed Ingenic-based.

Okay, I just ordered the white C210 version 2-pack. Here's to hoping they are Ingenic-based!

Well, according to this Reddit thread [reddit.com], Tapo support told somebody that the C210 and C211 are identical internally, but just differ in case color. I can imagine a support person conflating "functionally equivalent" (for the average end user) with "identical internally" even if that is not the case. Then I found a C210 repair video on YouTube [youtube.com], and the SOC is clearly a Star SSC333 as indicated in the FCC docs and internal pics. So evidence if building the C210 might not be Ingenic-based, at least the version that I am seeing.

Okay, confirmed that the 2-pack of C210's I purchased use the Star SSC333 SOC, and are not Ingenic-based. If the black C211's in this thread do have Ingenic SOCs,all the mixed comments around the web that beyond simple case color, the C210 and C211 are equivalent internally/electronically, well, those are wrong. Should have believed what I saw in the FCC docs!
