I picked up this game earlier this month on sale after playing it in the 2000s decade. I just learned this week that in D2R, you can kill the Cow King and still summon a new portal in a new instance.

Diablo 2 is my favorite game ever.

That being said, D2R was such a let down. Consider it a solo game unless you have friends to play with. The public server list is just bots using the game name to spam websites selling in game items.

There is a small community but trading is a shitshow just as it was in 2000. Can't believe they didn't even bother addressing this with the remaster.

OK, now, the good news. There is a mod called "Path of Diablo" (aka POD) that requires the base D2 game as well as the LOD expansion. POD has a larger community than D2:Resurrected, somehow. They have figured out a way to make trading manageable, and even offer a marketplace interface online to make trading easier. The game runs in seasons (like Ladder mode), and there are slight tweaks that might make different builds viable. No longer will you be stuck with the same handful of viable builds in Diablo 2. The adjustments allow for SO much more build diversity.

There are 0 (read as "zero" aka null, zilch, Z-E-R-O) bots running advertisements or spamming shit in the chat on POD servers.

For how hyped and then let down I was by Diablo 2 Resurrected, Path of Diablo is everything I was looking for. It is free, and easy to find by searching. Enjoy!

My personal favorite game of all time. I have multiple accounts I purchased copies of for PC, and I also own it on every console system I own. It's nostalgia for me at this point at 42 years old. If I have time to play a video game, this is the one I pickup. I play mostly on Xbox right now and there is a community albeit a small one but you can easily make friends by joining public games. If you haven't experienced it yet, you will probably think it is Path of Exile, but really, Diablo came first and I always enjoy getting a chance to jump in and play. I am literally playing right now.

Do not recommend this game at all. It almost ruined college for me 25ish years ago.

🤣🤣
It was very hard to stop playing, no doubt. I even had the item hack program for LoD where you could manipulate objects in the game. It was cheating but so cool.

Where can you even find a working copy of both games that work on modern Windows? Probably have to have an old computer with the original CDs right?

Can buy cd keys from battle.net and then there is a downloader you get from there also and you input your cd keys you purchased. Sandboxing allows you to run multiple instances on the same PC

That's amazing, I'm not sure I ever knew the name of it! I just remember creating the most epic armor and weapons ever, and it feeling like cheating. 😆

I have the Tristram theme song in different music playlists. Brings me back...
