They are out of stocking it as we speak. Couldn't get it to deliver. They are charging delivery now.

Is it common to work on live wires?

Is it common to not know a wire is live and work on it?

No, but "electricians" screwdriver would imply insulated to anyone that regularly works on wiring, and most people that don't.

Absolutely not. Should always know the wiring you're working on.

And yet insulated tools still exist.

It wouldn't imply insulated to a real electrician.

If this set was actually for electricians, it would have the ECX tips.

Looks like a great set. I also found other good sets on sale that were $20 after $20-$25 off and then qualified for buy 5 save $30 additional. So I ended up with a bunch of other tools as well.

I guess 120V isn't considered high enough in the US to require the use of insulated tools. In the EU, we always use insulated tools. The main reason is that a circuit could have a fault, or someone could accidentally make it live. Electricians are taught in trade schools to treat every circuit as if it were live. That's why insulated tools are a must-have. It's a good habit, especially since the voltage is higher (230V/400V).
I was a certified electrician back when I lived in the EU, so to be honest, I'm surprised that insulated tools aren't the default in the US.

True, but even as as an amateur I learned to treat every wire as though it's live. I've never been a professional electrician, but I've carried firearms professionally, and I liken treating every wire as live to treating every firearm as loaded with the safety off.

Best safety practices aren't to rely on a single protective measure when additional practical measures are readily available. Even if you've double-checked that a wire isn't live, why not use insulated tools?
