I really liked the sound quality and bass, but didn't like that the batteries in the rear speakers quit holding a charge after about 6 months, and JBL declined to stand behind/ support them (Google and you'll find others reporting this).

Consider that the other two models you mentioned require power source for the rear speakers whereas the JBL does not since they have rechargeable batteries.

Not the exact same mode; I have a 4-year-old JBL 9.1.4 with 2 detachable speakers. I have them plugged in, and they work perfectly.

I've had this set for a couple years now and am mostly satisfied. The speakers are great, but the subwoofer is very susceptible to interference & constantly makes popping noises. The detachable speakers work well but only last for a few hours.

I am considering this but I got Sonos Arc gen 1 for 375 from bestbuy still to pickup and Gen 3 Sub for 480 from Costco all including tax... Wonder if this better choice

Having speakers that "last a few hours" sounds like a giant pain in the arse to me. Who would want to deal with constantly having to charge or replace batteries in speakers? Even if it was once a week, that would be a deal breaker for me. A few hours???? No.

I always had difficulty getting them to pair, and sometimes they'd just power off and then I'd have to wrestle getting them to pair again. Eventually, I just got tired of fooling with it, so kept them connected to the main speaker - until I found a replacement solution that served my purposes better (Samsung Q-Series q910b).

Also, as another commenter mentions, the sub is really susceptible to interference, and I have a lot of tech, so a lot of signals bouncing around - so the annoying popping kept reappearing, no matter where I moved it, and no matter what frequency I would adjust my mesh to, sooo.... I just gave up and moved on.
