I saw a lot of BOGO and 25% offers, for example. In my usage case, I redeemed a BOGO burger offer valued on the DA website at $6, but here the restaurant menu price for the item is $9. The cashier wasn't familiar with the coupon as I pulled it up on my phone, so he called his colleague who instructed him to do something on the computer. I told him there's a reference number on the coupon, assuming he would need to input it. It wasn't necessary and I'm not sure if he hit some generic button for BOGO in the POS system to honor my "coupon".
Here's the thing: from doing a cursory search there are lots of reports saying Dining Advantage is a scammy company. They supposedly add restaurants to their site without permission, so people will show up and try to use a coupon, only to be told the restaurant has no affiliation with DA. Some have reported they also take a restaurant's coupon offer to the general public (via website, app, emails, etc.) and add it to their website as if it was DA-exclusive -- again, without the restaurant's permission.
The listed restaurants also leave a lot to be desired. Mostly fast food chains, which is fine, but you can find many equivalent value deals by checking restaurants' apps, websites, or social media pages. For a sit-down restaurant, I would definitely check with the staff that they accept the DA coupon before ordering. You don't want to get caught off-guard and have to pay the full bill at the end.
It's fine to use if a nearby place catches your eye, assuming the coupon is valid and accepted. But without these free credits, I cannot imagine anyone actually paying real money for the privilege of using said coupons. Like I said, anyone can download an app or check a website to find similar offers. Also learned that this is from the same company that used to sell coupon books back in the day. It's now a dying business model when every establishment can offer their own promotions directly. Might explain why they're feeling pressured to resort to these shady practices--probably hanging on by a thread.
