terrible reviews from this seller. Claims of shipping used items or previous returns. I'd stay away as there's no way they're selling real new sonos gen 4 subs for this cheap.
The age old saying applies here.. If it sounds to good to be true, it most likely is. AVOID!
Sonos Sub 4 is a compact wireless subwoofer that delivers strong bass and integrates cleanly with Sonos setups. The black model is still viewed as the better value at this price, especially compared with higher prices elsewhere, and the sound quality is described as essentially the same as the Costco option. The main cautions are seller trust and compatibility, since VIPOutlet listings have raised concerns about refurbished or used stock, and Sub 4 is less backward compatible than Sub 3, with original Play 1 speakers not working with it. It is a solid fit if you want Sonos simplicity and can live with those tradeoffs.
buyers who are okay with the seller risk and want a data point that the unit arrived new because multiple commenters reported receiving brand-new, factory-sealed Sub 4 units with no issues from this seller at deal prices.
people upgrading from a Sonos Sub 3 who are only considering Sub 4 if the price drops to around $450 because commenters say there's very little difference between Sub 3 and Sub 4.
buyers who already have Sonos Play 1 speakers and want to add a sub to that setup because Sub 4 is still a strong option if you don't rely on original Play 1 compatibility (the main compatibility issue is with Play 1, not with general Sonos sub use).
media-room shoppers who want multiple units and are willing to buy from this deal when they need "a few" subs because one commenter said they bought one and also needed a few for a media room.
people who are comparing WiFi 6 vs older WiFi and care about whether the sound quality changes because commenters said sound quality is the same between options and the main difference is WiFi 6.
people who want the best price-to-performance for bass and aren't constrained by Sonos/WAF because commenters argue there are "infinitely better ways" to spend $535 and that other subs (e.g., JBL/RSL) outperform Sonos at lower prices.
buyers who are sensitive to seller reliability and warranty risk because commenters flagged VIPOutlet as "shady," with claims of shipping used/open-box items and expired warranties, and advised to avoid.
owners with original Play 1 speakers who want full backward compatibility because commenters warn Sub 4 is less backwards compatible and original Play 1 speakers won't work together with Sub 4.
buyers who are worried about getting the wrong item or fulfillment problems because one commenter said they ordered and received a totally different product and planned to contact the seller for resolution.
buyers who want to avoid third-party seller uncertainty on major retailers because commenters specifically warned to stay far away from Walmart and BestBuy third-party sellers for this deal.
Several orders from the same seller were reported as brand new, factory sealed, and delivered with no issues. There are also reports of open-box items arriving used, so the seller's fulfillment can vary.
VIPOutlet has reports of shipping used items, previous returns, and even wrong products, which raises concern about buying a Sonos sub at this price. The seller also has poor Trustpilot feedback linked in the thread.
The main reported difference versus Sub 3 is Wi‑Fi 6 versus older Wi‑Fi, with sound quality described as essentially the same. Costco pricing with coupons and Apple credit can land around $450, and several shoppers said they would wait for Sub 4 to drop closer to $450 before upgrading.
The Sub 4 is less backwards compatible than the Sub 3, and original Play:1 speakers will not work with it. That matters if your Sonos setup still includes first-generation Play:1s.
A "better/real" sub does not fix inferior content.
You will not get the full advantage of that better performance.
Sorry, I did not understand what you meant by "fix inferior content"? And why would we not get better bass performance from a better sub? I'm confused.

In basic/general information.
Soundbars are designed & mainly used for streaming/digital content.
That is a significant drop in quality(inferior) in content.
Will a real sub perform better, sure.
Will you actually take full advantage of the capabilities of that real sub, no not really.
A sub is designed for low bass frequencies. Loudspeakers handle the rest of the higher bass frequencies.
Yes a sub is critical in a surround setup but TBH the higher bass frequencies happen much more than those low ones.
A sub isn't really going to make up for that deficiency on a soundbar.
Especially with object based surround content.
TBH it doesn't really do that that well on traditional setups either but I get people like to believe they do.

Keep in mind the Sub 4 is not as backwards compatible as the Sub 3. If you have any original Play 1 speakers they won't work together with the Sub 4.
I bought the Sub 3 from Costco and it had a crackling sound even when idle. I returned and bought another and it had the same issue. Found a community post with a ton of people experiencing the same and no solution. Bought the Sub 4 from vipoutlet and it was brand new (overstock sticker) and works perfectly.

This is more like a brand show off vs actual price/performance ratio. Too many better subs you can get at this price range.
To be fair, if you have "heard" one, you would get his point.
You can make almost any sub wireless but that doesn't improve what you "hear" though.
