Mostly convenience. Things you don't want running all the time — lamps, chargers, desk gear — without needing a smart plug for each one.😁

Useful for controlling components of a remote automated system. Or voice control for a set of electronics. Looks like they work with certain home automation platforms so geo fencing could automatically turn on components based on arrival at home.
