Might be worth emphasizing the kit(s) don't include both SAE and metric sockets - one kit include SAE sockets and another kit includes metric sockets.

Good starter set and build from there. Pricematch & lifetime warranty at Lowe's. Each store handles warranty differently but they should.

I've got a set of Craftsman sockets that are at least 30 years-old, made in the USA, they're still in excellent condition and no rust whatsoever!

It depends on your application, how and where you are going to use them. E.g., if you are planning to use them on a foreign car, most fasteners are probably metric and then the metric kit may make more sense. If you are planning to use them on a Harley or American vehicle, most hardware may be SAE and then the SAE kit may make more sense. You may very well need both SAE and metric sockets (but then rather than buying both kits, it may make more sense to buy a kit that contains both SAE and metric sockets and wrenches.)

Have you used current craftsman offerings lately? Its made in Taiwan up to par w other made in Taiwan tools. Plus lifetime warranty at lowes, although how each location process varies. Does the job for beginner to mid diyers. At one point when stanley black/decker aquired and offerings were mostly made in china those were junk tools.

Yes I bought the 242 set for $100. I'm not saying it's junk junk but it's not what it used to be when it was American made. $20 for just 24 pieces and not even both sae and metric included
is not a great price. plus that little clear plastic lid seems flimsy. I checked it when i was at the store.
