How is the paid version better than the free option?

I had my vet microchip my dogs and when I registered them on Petlink site, it was free to do so, not sure why it would cost $30 unless things have changed

I vaguely recall after they had been chipped more than a year I had to pay a one time registration for each to update the address / mark them missing.

I adopted a dog from our humane association. They use PerlLink when microchipping all adopted animals.

Not everyone checks every major database when an animal is found.

The more major databases, the better. For $5? Why not?

Most of the time, a chip will include a lifetime membership to a database. Mine's was to Michelson's (now 24Petwatch).
