I've been very disappointed with my Eufy camera systems. If I do it over again I'd rather go with a NVR and PoE type solution like Reolink.
Ways I've been disappointed by Eufy and Anker:
- They had a bad security bug where they basically let anyone in the world view your cameras for a while. It was a back door where anyone could view your video. To me it proves incompetence, or malice.
- They allow SD card recording, but the SD card ends up readable only by their camera so you can't pop it in anywhere else to read - you must read it using their app while the card is in the camera. So you are still locked in to allowing their app to read your video through their network, even if you try to record offline, you'll eventually have to let their app access your video.
- No RTSP so you are locked into their system and app forever. You'll always be a second class user to them if you don't pay the subscription.
For a little more you could get a NVR with PoE cameras and not deal with any of that BS. Actually own your own video data.
I've got a Eufy system with 2 of these cameras and a doorbell along with the Homebase. I'm not a fan because it's very inconsistent on what it chooses to call an event and it misidentifies humans and pets regularly. Some of the captures only catch the end of events and I can't tell what happened or who it was. Also the package alert on the doorbell is very sketchy. Sometimes it works and other times won't even capture the delivery person. It's been ok for a cheap entry level system but I recommend looking elsewhere.
Sick deal, but I'm done investing in Eufy. All 3 indoor cameras, 2 outdoor cameras, and 1 solar panel no longer work properly or at all in a matter of 3 years. All indoor cameras developed a static issue which prevents me from hearing any true audio while live streaming or reviewing playbacks. It's a software glitch shared by other Eufy owners online. The outdoor cameras got water in their lenses and now display a hazy view, which doesn't produce any promising visuals. And lastly, the solar panel got water damage and stopped working within a year. Their quality is just a big miss based on my experience.
The S220 SoloCam is a convenient solar outdoor camera that stands out for easy setup, no subscription, and solid performance in the right conditions. The solar panels can keep units running for long stretches, especially in low traffic areas, and it works well with HomeBase 3 for extra local storage and AI features. It can also run without HomeBase, though with fewer AI tracking abilities. Main limits are no 24 by 7 recording or RTSP, and battery or solar performance can struggle in cloudy, cold, or busier locations.
rural or multi-building property owners who can place the cameras where Wi‑Fi reaches because commenters said they should work fine if your router/Wi‑Fi can reach the install location (and some solved coverage with daisy-chained routers).
homeowners who want a simple solar wireless setup without paying for a subscription because commenters said the solar panels are effective and they've had a good experience without needing a subscription.
people installing cameras where they can't run power/data lines because commenters said the solar power is "incredibly useful" for situations where cabling can't be run, and a wired PoE+NVR setup can't compete with that convenience.
buyers who already have (or plan to use) eufy Homebase 3 for local storage because commenters said these work well with Homebase 3 for extended local memory rather than online storage.
non-technical households or families who need cameras that are easy to set up because commenters said friends/family could set them up without much complexity.
people using the cameras mainly for animal watching and occasional package-drop monitoring because commenters said they don't need high-quality audio or anything fancy for that kind of use.
people who want to "own" and freely access their video data outside the eufy app because commenters reported SD-card recordings were only readable via the eufy app/network and that lack of RTSP can create vendor lock-in.
households that rely on accurate human/pet event labeling and consistent package alerts because commenters said event labeling is inconsistent, humans/pets are misidentified, and doorbell package alerts can be sketchy or miss deliveries.
buyers in cold, cloudy climates who expect solar to keep up year-round because commenters said in the cold, cloudy Northeast the solar panels/batteries were undersized on this model and older/larger models performed better.
buyers who are sensitive to long-term hardware reliability because commenters reported multiple eufy indoor/outdoor/solar components failing over about 3 years (audio/static issues, water damage/hazy lenses, and solar panel water damage).
people who need reliable battery charging in battery-saving mode with frequent short clips because commenters said in the Bay Area they couldn't keep the cameras charged in battery saving mode with short videos and returned them.
The solar panels can be effective for off-grid placement where power and data lines cannot be run.
In good sun and low-traffic areas, the solar panels can keep them running with very little maintenance, with some setups only needing a yearly charge. In cold, cloudy regions or with short battery-saving clips, the panels and batteries may be undersized and may not keep up.
Yes, it can work without a HomeBase, but you lose some AI tracking abilities and local storage expansion. With HomeBase 3, it can use extended local memory instead of online storage.
No. These cameras cannot do 24/7 recording and do not support RTSP, so they are better suited to motion-based battery/solar use than always-on surveillance.
Yes, setup is straightforward enough that non-technical users can get them running without much trouble. The cameras are also convenient for places where you cannot easily run power or data lines.
Yes, it comes with a plastic mounting piece and a swivel-style mount that can point the camera up to 90 degrees in different directions. A magnetic third-party mount can also be used for a more repositionable install.
It comes with a little mounting cone that the camera attaches to via a swivel joint which is about 2 inches long, and it allows you to mount it to any wall or pole and point the camera up to 90 degrees in any direction up down left or right from the direction the mount is attached. It is plastic but is pretty sturdy and should last quite a few years before it gets brittle from sun exposure.
Really strong magnet--just remove the blink specific attachment and it screws right into the s220. it fits nicely under the corner of your gutters, and still gets enough sun exposure. you can get a cheap washer from the hardware store to place on the topside of the gutter so the magnet attaches securely from underneath. makes it easy to reposition along the gutters if you guessed wrong for sun coverage, etc.
Solar on this goes bad. It also doesn't do correct human detection. I suggest to stay away from this model.
To mount these in shady areas or under over hangs, I bought 3rd party solar panels under $20 each that have put any such concerns to rest. Search "external solar panel for eufy" and use best judgement.

It's a good self-contained, wireless video cam. I had two that work fine (cheap and get the job done kind of device).
But I hate that Eufy added an ad for their products on the top area of the "Security" viewing area of the app (no such ad just a few weeks ago).
I am not sure what kinds of ads will appear on the app in the future.
The branding isn't obtrusive (S220 with latest firmware, no Homebase just running local WifI). Couldn't upload image to this thread (sorry), but the system fits my needs & at this price, easy for me to add to it. Wish it had 4k but the next step up S330 is 4x the current cost and requires homebase which I'm trying to avoid.

Damn a soild deal on eufy camera I invested in blink now tapo. I dont want to start over again ðŸ˜
I invested in blink too but I'm not feeling it. After 10pm I can access live view and the night vision isn't great. I had better quality with WyzeI have Eufy everything else so I may just switch and give the blinks to my dad.

i should of said i invested and left blink. absolute trash. the only redeeming quality is the constant sales on the cameras. switching from wyze to blink or anything>blink is a downgrade.
