It MAY approach $20, but last year I played the waiting game into February and ended up paying $30, the best price at that time

I'd jump on it. No point to waste time and effort on keeping track of sales to save a couple of bucks. It is splitting pennies here, but technically, if you are due a refund of any meaningful amount, you may as well file early(ier) and earn an extra buck or two in a savings account or a CD.

Yep I just print and mail my state.
I did that a few years ago. After waiting for my tax return to get less than 150 miles away to my state's Department of Revenue, over 2 weeks, because of the incompetent USPS, I pay the extra to E-file. I know it gets there.

2 week wait is not bad worth the savings imo even if using certified mail to be safe if you are close to the deadline. States like NY have free state file by law (thanks Mamdani), not sure if there are others so look yours up.

Another idea is waiting for a sale from Amazon and applying the no-rush shipping credits to the purchase.

I've always paid for deluxe + state and then been frustrated about paying to e-file. For those of you who mail your state, do you still buy deluxe + state? Or do you pay for vanilla deluxe?

I buy Deluxe and State, print out the State and mail it in.

Same here. No point in paying $15+ to e-file State when the alternative cost is a postage stamp.
You forgot to factory in a printer and ink cost. 15 a year is worth it not owning a printer

Well, depending on your state, paper filing might require 30+ printouts and several dollars in postage (much more for certified), then an anxious waiting game. That's why I gladly pay the $20 for efile.

I usually get a state refund and owe money to the Feds, so getting that refund quickly and waiting til 4/15 to pay DC is a fair tradeoff.

I need some advice. I have always used TurboTax to file income tax returns. But it's expensive. Is it a good idea for me to try out the H&R Premium to file joint federal taxes? I have W2s and will receive documents from Robinhood and Webull. Thanks!

The deluxe will do just fine based on the needs you stated if you're just doing federal

I switched over from turbotax a long time ago. Very easy. You just need a PDF copy of last year's return and it will bring in a lot of the info for you. I don't use robinhood or webull but I like to enter all my 1099s manually. I used the auto import once and it messed up stuff so bad I started over.

This is the lowest of the season my friends
I'm going to wait. Last year the first few weeks in January Newegg had it for 22.99, the lowest I saw it.

That's been my situation for years. I do the same thing. It usually comes out almost even for me.

If one had all incomes in a W2 with proper with-holding and knows they're taking the standard deduction, then it's easy even with paper filing.

For me, it's worth it to have the State just to help with filling out and printing the forms. Sometimes I use online filing as well, depends on what I'm paying or have coming back.
