Yes, H&R does cost extra to e-file your state return. Either print and mail it like others have suggested or do what I do. My state (Kansas) has free e-file. I use the H&R state return to fill out the free online form on the state website. Check if your state has free e-file. It's better than making a trip to the post office.

Last year was the first time I paid to efile State and will do it again this year. Easier, faster, no paper, no printer ink wasted, no driving to USPS waiting in line and paying for postage... And knowing it arrived and accepted is gratifying.

Anyone know for sure what premium does over deluxe? I recall reading somewhere that there is nothing premium does that deluxe does not do but that seems silly. My taxes are complicated this year due to a small inheritance involving inherited IRAs etc.

Last year, I got "Vanilla" Deluxe and then just filed online on MyFTB (in my case). Was very easy, just a bit of data entry.
This year, I got Fed+State, but will file the state part online again, just makes it easier to have all the state numbers already transferred and ready for entry.

No need for e-filing fee or stamp.

The lowest Deluxe + State got last year was $18 on a YMMV Target in-store deal. In mid-January they had a deal where it was $20 after a bundle with some retail gift cards but there weren't a lot of good choices in the available cards. In late January NewEgg had it standalone for $23.

I bought it here at $25, close enough.

$25 close enough for me. I am in. $26.67 after tax. Not worth the wait to save maybe $2. I doubt you will ever see $20 again.
