I wish that the 70 L pack was wider rather than longer so I could take it on trips without checking it in

I have this similar bag from 2017. Never used it. Do you think the one from 2017 material was made better than this current version?

Woa, nice price. I picked up the 40L when it was $92 on BF, but now I'm wondering whether this is a better pickup for the 10-12ish more L in the main bag without the daypack.

Does anyone have the daypack? is it worth $45ish extra?

i have a HikeLite 18 I was going to try to attach the 40L, but I imagine the frame on it would cause complications.

Anyone knows if Osprey makes a cover for this bag? A cover for rain or for checking in the bag?

You can protect the straps should you need to check in the bag. It ends up looking like a small suitcase. They make covers which will fit the bag should you be worried about rain.

It's not really even clear whether this version in OP is the newest 2025 or 2024.

There were a bunch of changes made between those iterations, so I imagine yours has some major distinctions too.

I got the Farpoint 40L during BF and that version was the 2024 and not the newest version (which had some downgrades IMO).

I own two of these (55L). One from ~2015 and bought another for my wife while in Denmark in 2025 to replace a rolling bag that was being a massive hassle (mid trip). We have two small kids and being able to put a good amount of stuff on your back is a lifesaver. The ability to separate the bags is a huge bonus once you're where you're headed, solid daypack. For what it's worth, I prefer my older bag (circa 2015) because the daypack zippers to the main bag, the newer version only attaches via straps, but still has same the functionality. Also, while the main bag is kind of long (again 55L), I've always brought it as a carry on with the daypack as my underseat bag on planes (never been questioned by crew). Worth it at this price, IMO.

I personally find 70L too big and not that practical. The 40L Farpoint is about the sweet spot I'd be willing to carry on my back for extended period of time. 55L is the max. These get heavy quick when fully loaded. I tried an older version of the 55L a few years ago and thought it was already too big. I'd work on packing lighter as opposed to going up to something like a 70L for travel.

25.6 height....so I would not count on it making it as a carry on when airlines are stricter in enforcing rules, especially on international flights. As they say "your mileage may vary..."
