Seems too big for the use of it, I use this sampler solution

I dont see how that is a sampler.
It's sticking out and you have to be more delicate with the device and accessory because of it.

This Anker one make it easier to grab onto and you don't have to worry about the dongle getting unplugged as easily when filming.

Has anyone tried this with a Galaxy or Android phone? Why is it advertised as only for iPhones?

I haven't used this specific model but USB C storage absolutely works for android devices, I have a USB C SSD I use with my pixel and oneplus phone regularly. I have no reason to believe this wouldn't work for other phones.

these are great for my fuji xh2 or cam snap camera. i bought one in black and kept misplacing it so i stuck a sticker on it but i could see why teal would also be nice. helpful for getting photos off a camera or maybe even dash cam vs wifi connecting.

It is a card reader, it can work on iOS, padOS, android, Windows, macOS...
I use it as hi-speed card reader.

The most likely reason is that the product description was never updated to reflect the fact that Android phones can use magsafe now.

My wife will love it for offloading snorkeling videos from her GoPro on trips

i know you can get entire USB docks for phones, but it would be cool if this form factor also had a headphone jack. i could see it being useful for carrying around a large but local music collection in MP3/FLAC, while connecting your favorite studio monitors.

I suspect he was thinking of the use case the way I was. Plug it in, transfer out/in photos/data, unplug. I didn't realize you could have the camera write live to external media. Even then I'm trying to think of if or how that would be more efficient than writing to the internal storage then dumping off in batches. Honest question. Not bating.

I bought one this past October for a vacation trip to transfer photos from my camera sd cards. It is so much faster and higher resolution than using the camera's photo transfers apps. It is so worth it for me cause it cuts the transfer time to mere seconds versus hours if I have many pictures to download into my phone.

For about 10$ more, you can get one that takes a small ssd. A lot more storage and a lot more speed if your phone supports it.
