Note that the 7730u is essentially a rebadged 5800u.

No, and it's been addressed and debunked several times in the previous threads. This is redundant now.

This Zen3's iGPU has worse graphical performance than the Ryzen Z1 Extreme - it's only about half as fast.

Vega graphics vs RDNA2.

The CPU is also a bit slower than the Z1 Extreme. Zen4 had some large performance gains. At 28W system-rated, this thing isn't pushing higher TDP on the APU either.

At the age of this machine, it really isn't a good value. Elevated prices on RAM and SSDs don't make this 5-year-old-architecture machine that great. For stripping its parts, perhaps, but the RAM and SSD part numbers may not be anything special either. I didn't see any manufacturer names, model numbers, or speeds listed.

Maybe it's the price of DDR4/5, but wow these prices have gone vertical.
That's what I was thinking. Weren't these (or similar models) sub-$300 not long ago?

Just the RAM and SSD alone would be worth close to $380. Throw in a free barebones and you're doing alright
I think 32gb ddr4 laptop RAM is around $100 on eBay, and 1 tb is around $80?

I expect most folks that would buy this may also have an external drive, and there is another unit for $90 less with half the drive size.

If I plug 4 external hard drives to this, what software can be used to make sure they are replicated 2x2? So if i make any changes in one drive it can be replicated in the other but only in pairs.
Stablebit Drivepool is what you need assuming you're staying on windows. It works as software RAID control and can do exactly what you want. One time purchase, totally worth in my opinion.

Thanks for the suggestion, this sounds like exactly what we need. But I have one question:
It says
"*Plug in any pooled disk to any computer running StableBit DrivePool and your files are instantly available on the pool.

*You can access your pooled files from any Windows computer, even without StableBit DrivePool installed."

Isn't this part contradicting?

I believe the first part means the pool is available on any computer running Drivepool. Think of Drivepool in this situation as the key to unlock the software raid that has pooled the drives.

The second part means you could access the pooled drives as a network drive without needing Drivepool running (because the host computer running Drivepool acts as the conduit for the pool). Hopefully that makes sense, but lemme know if not and I can try explaining again lol, its a bit confusing I know.

Oh I see, I thought the 2nd part meant that you can access your data in another computer if you plug the drive to another computer. The reason I asked is in case of a)emergency situation where you need to remove the drive and take with you or b) in case host computer crashes, are drives going to be accesable in another computer without the software running.

AMD's CPU numbering is bonkers. I was going to say that I had one with a similar CPU and it's great, but it turns out the one I have (the 7735HS) is a different generation with much better integrated graphics than the 7730U. I don't know why AMD does this.

This sounds like a horrible idea.

I mean....that's how RAID1+0 works. Many professional system does this for redundancy.

I had a bad experience with acemagic recently. My mini (s3a) PC died and they didn't respond through any support channels. They only finally refunded after I started a dispute with Paypal. Poor system quality and poor service.

You may use software raid, but doing it like that is more likely to introduce a problem than solve it. If you want a raid setup you should shuck those drives and put them in a pre-build or diy NAS.
