The RTX 5060 WINDFORCE looks like a solid entry level upgrade for budget gaming and light GPU work, with strong gains over older cards and support for DLSS 4. It is described as much faster than a 3060, runs cooler than a 3060 in one setup, and handles Fortnite, Minecraft, and 1440p play well. The main drawbacks are the 8GB memory and the x8 PCIe design, which can matter on older PCIe slots or in some builds. It fits compact cases, but secure mounting and power supply compatibility matter. A practical pick if the rest of the system is ready for it.

Common Questions (5)

  • It is enough for some games like Fortnite and Minecraft at high settings, and one user reported a huge FPS jump with cooler operation. For heavier use, 8GB is also the main reason some shoppers consider it overpriced compared with 12GB or 16GB alternatives.

  • Yes, it is described as a solid budget option for an entry-level PC and for lighter gaming use like Minecraft or Fortnite. The main tradeoff is the 8GB VRAM limit, which matters more if you want more headroom for newer or heavier games.

  • No. It uses a PCIe x8 connector, so the edge connector does not extend to the full x16 slot length. That can prevent the motherboard end clip from engaging, so it should be screwed in securely and may benefit from a support bracket.

  • It is about 45% faster and adds DLSS 4, but it has less VRAM than a 3060. It is also two generations newer, so support should last longer; on PCIe 3.0 systems, the x8 link can cause some performance loss in certain cases.

  • It may be a bad fit for that OEM system because Dell power supplies are often non-standard and underpowered for this card. The card is relatively compact, but you may still need a PSU replacement or an external/additional power setup, so compatibility should be checked carefully.

The 5060 is about 45% faster but has less VRAM. It also supports DLSS4 and is 2 generations newer so it will be supported longer. Up to you if it is worth the money or not. The 5060 is also only an x8 card. That won't matter much if you have a modern PCIe slot but if you are on PCIe 3 still that may cause you a performance hit in some circumstances. If you have a PCIe 2.0 slot I would go with the 3060.Not a clear answer either way I think.
Thanks. I'm using a ryzen 5500 for the CPU which only supports pcie 3.0 so I'll just keep the 3060. Used ones sell on ebay for $180 so the $161 refurb from zotac is still pretty slick

Agree with all the comments. This is to high and the card hardly holds up with the 8GB.

2027

AI build out is going crazy, I think there are like 4000 data center projects right now or something. or was 400., either way, AI build out will take all of the ram so shortage will continue for a very long time.

I am wondering if we will see one of those any time soon. With the memory shortage, it seems like all the sales are on the 8GB and 12GB cards that have not been selling well.
MSI 5060ti 16G was $369 twice at Walmart around black friday. I jumped on it, glad I did

Are these still used for farming? That's y it's still at a high price?
No. That ended in 23. They are no longer using hashes from GPU to mine.

That being said: this is a bad deal and you should not give nVidia your money.

GPU mining for Ethereum officially ended on September 15, 2022, when the network completed "The Merge," transitioning from Proof-of-Work (PoW) to the energy-efficient Proof-of-Stake (PoS) system, making traditional mining obsolete and paving the way for staking as the new consensus mechanism.

FYI, the connector is a PCIE x8, not x16, so you don't need a full width slot. This opens up the possibility of using it in a "slower" slot and utilizing it for something like Lossless Scaling.

This is a PCIE 5.0 card, so even at x8 width, you'd still get the same bandwidth as PCIE 4.0 x16.

This or the $160 refurb 3060 I just ordered from zotac
The $160 3060 were 8GB and pretty horrible. They had 12GB versions, but they've been sold out for a while.

I can't keep up anymore with the price fluctuations on GPUs, ram, ssds, etc now. Feels like I'll never build a reasonably priced gaming PC ever again lol
