It's interesting they're comparing to USB 3.0, seeing as a USB-A 3.0 cable can do 3.1 at 10 Gbps. Really this is just a flexed 3.2 cable with 240W added. But they're branding it to the limit.

Belkin has been like that a long time. Someone in a board room probably suggested they change the company name to Brandkin but it was voted down because it was too on the nose.

The question is can passive cable longer than 3.3 feet be Thunderbolt 3/4 cable?

From Google AI result, it said to maintain full 40Gbps speeds and features over 3.3 feet, it must be an active cable with an integrated chipset; passive cables usually lose performance beyond 3.3 feet (1 meter).

So look for cable that said Active Thunderbolt 3/4 cable if you want 6ft one. Usually a lot more expensive.

I agree with this poster. I bought these two cables around an year ago, and they worked as expected. I did pay $10 or less for both though.

The deal also calls for 4' 20gbps cable for $19.

$21 40gbps vs $20 20gbps. May as well go with the actual usb 4.0 cable.

Based on recent posts, the 4' cable is not a slickdeals since you can get 40gbps(usb4/thunderbolt 3/4) 3.3' cable around this price.

It is compatible with Thunderbolt at 20Gbps speed. Thunderbolt 3 and 4 can operate at up to 40Gbps but will limit to 20Gbps with this cable.

Yes, any 20Gbps+ USB-C cable can be compatible with Thunderbolt. However, I personally wouldn't trust any that are not USB-IF or Thunderbolt certified (they pass strict signal loss and other specification requirements testing).

For years 3.3ft (1m) was the limit for certified passive 40Gbps cables, but in the last couple of years they've been slowly getting longer. There are now USB-IF certified passive 40Gbps cables in 1.2m and 1.5m length. Certified active 40Gbps cables still top out at 2m length, except for the Apple 3m Thunderbolt cable.

Non certified cables are a total crapshoot. There is lots of junk out there, but some that seem to work well for most people.

That is a limitation is more due to the signal types used in Thunderbolt/USB. Over in networking, 400GB passives (QSFP-DD) can be had up to 5m.

Can you recommend any ACTIVE ones over 6 feet? I do device based graphic design. Need a little slack. 6 really is the minimum. Not sure why everything is designed for 3 feet. 3 feet barely even reaches my monitor when pc is on the floor.
