I like to look at the 3-star reviews. My theory is they are the most honest. Fake reviews are going to be 5-star and fake competitor reviews and angry people are 1-star.

Doesn't look too good.

Jokes aside knives like these make great all purpose knives if sharpened properly, have been using one that is the exact same for over 10 years now, been sharpened down to about 7" so far

I will not buy a knife where the edge doesn't go all the way to the heel (for those of you new to knives, it's the fat part of the blade near the handle). The reason is that when you sharpen the blade a few times, you cause a little space between the blade and the knife because you can't sharpen all the way back. I've ground that part down on a wheel before to make it more flat and it kinda sucks.

can you elaborate further? like I'm comparing it to my Messermeister POM avanta steak knife, does it also have the same issue?

Wouldn't only looking at 3-Star reviews tend to bias toward reviews from customers who think it "doesn't look too good"? Bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy here.

You can tell those people are not even medium level amateur cooks.
A knife is something functional.... a tool and it's not very important for it to look purty!
Best place to buy a knife is at your local China Town.

It's hard to know where these TUs are coming from, reading the comments...

That said - should be a hard pass for everyone, unless it's for camping or something. Good knives aren't that expensive. Buy Victorinix or Mercer, as previous commenters have mentioned. Wait for a sale on a chef knife from one of these brands instead. And don't be drawn in by pretty looking handles. It's the quality of the blade, the ergonomics, and the balance that are important.

I think that's called the bolster & heel.

Or, by those who only believe in custom knives they commission in person made from Aogami steel.
