This ACEMAGIC mini PC stands out as a compact Ryzen 7 system with unusually strong value for the included 32GB DDR5 and 1TB Gen4 SSD. The H 255 version is described as the better variant, with HDMI 2.1 for 4K at 120Hz, USB4 power delivery, and support for up to 128GB of RAM. The USB4 port also works with Thunderbolt eGPU docks, and the machine has room for storage upgrades. Main cautions are limited port convenience, possible bloatware or a reused Windows image, and the usual uncertainty around support and brand trust.

Mac mini has soldered SSD and can't be upgraded by any normal users.
You are mistaken with your facts. It is a daughter-board in a Mac Mini. It is not proprietary, basically just the chips without a controller. You might be confused with the notebooks which are soldered. They can be upgraded by a professional. There are issues with upgrading in that you need two Macs to upgrade the unit as the restore process requires a second mac to help with OS install.

Does this seem like overkill for running home assistant on a home network? I would prefer this over raspberry pi.
For HA, you can get one with an N150/N95 processor. Not only they're much cheaper, but they also have an Intel igpu that supports vaapi/quicksync and openvino for use with Frigate for cameras

Those past malware incidents only affected some units as far as is known. There should not be any concerns at this point.Warranty support is likely to be highly limited on these computers. My assumption about buying any computer like this is to assume there is no support available. If you want something that works for 4K editing and is about $500, you can't do better than a Mac Mini (education discount price or somewhat regular sales). I know macOS won't work for everyone, but a Mac Mini should be considered if a primary use for a mini PC is video editing.
I bought one of those models for each of my kids. Reinstall windows and it is good to go. Refresh win11 installation is a must if you don't want bloatware.

Thanks for the details but that does support my point. How many general users do you think are even aware of that proess or understand it and gonna do it?

If I went down that road I would have to write an encyclopedia of knowledge for every post. How many Windows PC users know how to Install the OS From scratch? Which drivers they might need to download before performing the install? Install an upgraded NVME SSD? Swap out ram? What if they want to install an alternate OS?

I treat both sides the same I assume the person has the knowledge to do what they want to do. Considering the first person as considering a MAC from the start I gave what I felt was an honest answer. Upgrading the SSD in both machines is surely a process most computer users would find difficult at best.

Both have good points and bad points depends on the software you want to run. This unit you can easily upgrade ram and SSD assuming you consider it affordable. I think it might have better bluetooth range if I recall correctly.Mac Min runs MacOS. Mac Mini is not as upgrade-able, but you can upgrade the SSD. 16 GB of ram is a little bit more limiting in some situations. I rather have an upgradable system, but the bandwidth of the ram is nice. Overall performance in most situations goes to the MAC, but that means little if it doesn't run the software you need. Overall if you are just a casual user of basic tasks I would likely suggest the MAC. If you are heavily Apple oriented, the Mac is likely a better choice. If you know what you plan to run simply pick the one that works best for you.
Just went through the process of upgrading Mac Mini SSD, fairly straightforward. Your only option tho is to buy from Chinese sellers who have reverse engineered Apple's proprietary SSD/connector

That single USB-C port is going to age poorly. I know you can get adapters, but this is discounted for a reason.

Security Warning. You must wipe this PC immediately.
The brand ACEMAGIC had a major controversy in 2024 where they shipped Mini PCs with pre-installed spyware (malware) in the Windows recovery partition. Do not turn it on and log in to your bank or email. Create a Windows 11 (or Proxmox) USB installer on a different computer. Boot this new PC from that USB and format/wipe the entire hard drive (delete all partitions) before installing a fresh OS.
Once you do that, the hardware is perfectly safe and powerful.

No, upgrading a SSD in a Windows PC with dedicated M.2 slot is pretty easy, most users are aware of it and most importantly. it is officially supported, unlike Mac and does not need another computer to do so.

How you are gonna insert 3rd party SSD directly if SSD is soldered? It is doable but not by a general user. Stop throwing jargons without understanding it. And sure external SSDs can be added but that will eat your Type-C ports. Again, for handling those, you probably need to buy some kind of Docks or Hubs with internal SSD slots, adding up to the costs.
Similarly 24GB mac Mini Costs way more than this deal and that poster was asking something in the similar price bracket.

I am not even against getting a Mac Mini, if your work suits it, get it by all mean. I am simply stating the disadvantages of it which people should be aware of before buying it and that's it. But looks like Apple Fanboys have hard time to even accept those. Why just stopping it at 24GB Ram, pay even more to get 2TB SSD...who cares about costs.
You missed the point. I've used Macs since 1984 so don't patronize me son. Configure the Mac mini with 24GB of RAM and only get 256GB SSD. It's way cheaper and future proof. The SSD is not soldered in, so you can replace it with a third party vender SSD and save a lot of money. The only thing is you will need a DFU kit to restore the OS onto the Mac when the SSD is installed. https://m4boosthub.com/collections/all

Amazing deal; however, I think the price has been updated with a bump of $50 even after applying the coupon code.

Who cares if you used Mac since the middle ages or not. Normally people with poor knowldge and ego problems, come with those analogies when countered with valid points. And Intel Mac used to have upgradable SSD and Ram for a very lobg time. And I still don't get the point how 24GB Ram Mac Mini is way cheaper. And those SSD links you have given, again, no normal users are goona do it, they probably even not aware of it. And those are literally more than twice the cost of a normal SSD, has no warranty and need to buy oversees without ant proper support, unlike any normal SSD which can just fit into the Windows Mini PCs. So, if you add those costs, it is not gonna be cheap, has no warranty and you analogy is againt faulty. Keep your "Using Mac since 1984" logic tourself, that des not make you any expert.
