Base iPhone 17 is not an incremental update but a generational leap over all previous base iPhones. For 300 more you'd get a much better spec phone which will last you much longer in terms of future proofing the device

Too expensive. $399 would be better deal

This is just normal price. Not a deal. In a couple of months, metro or cricket, total, straight talk, boost and the like will be selling the 15 for $99 or $149 max.

I have an iPhone 15 for work, and I agree with this comment that it should be no more than $400. The main problem with the iPhone 15 is that it's aggressive RAM management; it's so frustrating when all you have in the background are 3 - 4 apps opened, and they constantly refresh themselves.

Best Buy has unlocked iPhone13 for $200+ which I think is a better deal for a teenager. Or, transfer/add a line to ATT and get a iPhone 16 for $7.99/monthly for two years, which is a better deal than paying straight for it.
Maybe an unlocked refurbished 13.

Seems like the 15 has maintained value much better than the older versions. I would have thought 15's would be closer to $400 by now being a 2023 iPhone

Daily reminder, Walmart has iPhones 14 Pro/Pro Max, iPhone 15/15 Plus, 15 Pro/Pro Max any memory capacity for $300/each when you add a line/upgrade on AT&T/Verizon/T-Mobile, provided you can find any leftovers in stores. As the iPhone 15 is the most common leftover, you have a pretty good chance there
I'm guessing this is for straight up adding a line and there's no work around for prepaid users looking for a quick unlock?

I've had the 13 for at least 2 years now and it's more than adequate for a teen imo. I would be reluctant to spend >$300 on a phone for youngster.

I'm a prepaid user, so my idea of a deal is admittedly a little different. I don't have access to traditional carrier promos, so I typically shoot for a generation or 2 old phone on a flash sale or open-box. It's worth it as I have unlimited data through Visible for $225/year.

I saw Apple Intelligence mentioned as a reason to upgrade to iPhone 17.
But Apple Intelligence is totally a failure. Tim Cook just fired their AI head.
Apple is contracting google to do their ai stuff..they fell behind in the ai race

I'm sure you don't need reminding that prepaid/unlocked phone customers are undesirable for postpaid, and they have prepaid-specific deals instead

Right, but this particular deal is more relevant to prepaid users generally speaking. As you know, the vast majority of postpaid users are likely relying on carrier subsidies and upgrade promos and are less likely to buy an unlocked phone at retail. Deals contingent on adding lines/upgrading with one's existing carrier seem like a mismatch for this thread and thus why I was asking you for clarification.

If you want cheaper, and if you have Verizon postpaid, you could get the iPhone 14 128 GB for $300. It's on a finance agreement, but you can pay off the device early. It's locked to Verizon for 60 days but it sounds like you already use the service so if you don't plan to leave Verizon before 60 days, maybe get that one?
You also need to factor the activation fee that Verizon wiil charge

WTH, I'm not sure this is a good deal, $500 for a two-year-old phone with only 128GB. My friend just bought a brand-new iPhone 17 (256GB) for $785 in other country. Where is our money?
where to get 17 for that price?

Too expensive. 128 isn't enough storage anymore. 60Hz screen, large bezels. Can't wait to replace my 15PM with an android fold.
My friend has the baseline galaxy 25 and it's more expensive then what I paid for my baseline iPhone 17.And I don't see the difference between it but my iPhone video looks much better and the IP had a better build quality. So im tried of people that don't check prices saying what is cheaper also Samsungs folding is more expensive then the latest iPhone. So please make a choice on what they like or ability and not on false or personal opinion.

My kid wants an iPhone, this is the only "normal deal" ( not a hack or 60 day unlock ) and also not refurbed. I hate asking but is this a ok deal good? great? Any insight would be killer. And happy new year slick dealers!
Edit, it shows if i activate it through V its only $399. fine print? I am with Verizon but wont do payments/contracts.
No. Selling the base model w/lowest storage that came out 2+ years ago for just $300 off is crazy

Agreed, the jump from 14 to 15 is very little in terms of CPU an GPU and RAM
15 to 16 is the best "value" jump is someone wants an older model. 16 has a monster multi core CPU and also has 8GB RAM (up from 6Gb for 15 and is same as 17).
If you're a heavy gamer or does intense tasks though, the biggest % GPU jump comes from 16 to 17 and older models will last less for newer games unfortunately.
