No reason to get this when the Elitebook G8 is for the same price but with a better processor. It also goes down to $220 regularly. Also, the 11th Gen Intel model of this laptop is just a few bucks more and that would be a better choice if you really desire a ThinkPad.
Only reason to get this is if you really desire the that thinkpad trackpoint. Even then with this outdated processor, it should be below $200.

Build quality - maybe. CPU - Depends on the processor. If it had been gen 2 AMD for this price, it would have been a much better deal. Another thing to consider with Thinkpads are the quality of displays. Most come with poor color gamut coverage since it is aimed for business crowd who don't need color fidelity. It's mostly a lottery which display you would get. More often than not, it won't be super bright or super accurate.

As someone who HAS dealt with HP on a professional level....I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy.

They're such a mixed bag when it comes to build quality. You'll be troubleshooting random glitches all the time. And their customer support is excruciatingly miserable -- and that's with a corporate account. I can't imagine a one-off purchase from the general public consumer is going to get any better.

I assume you can put more ram and replace the hard drive?

I have this model. I have two drives, a 2TB kingston 2280 in the standard NVME slot and a 256 GB 2242 in the WWAN slot. The extra ram slot, I put in another 16GB stick.

Not terrible but not great either. I got a refurb T14 G1 w/ 4750U (the R7 SKU, OP has an R5) w/ 512GB SSD to boot for ~$250 a year and change back. Price definitely needs to be better.

This would be sweet if it was the 2 in 1 touch screen model. But as someone mentioned earlier. The Elitebook 845 G8 is better than this.

Is this any better than my Samsung galaxy book alpha first gen? My battery is terrible like 30 min.

Late response on my part, but if another such offer crops up in the future, the 4650U is significantly quicker than the 7520. https://www.cpubenchmark.net/comp...-PRO-4650U
