It gave me that error too, but it still showed the 40% promotional credit in the total once I hit apply.

Is there an advantage over a cell phone with an app like 18Birdies or The Grint? Or is this for someone who doesn't want to have to have their cell phone out while they're playing?

Same. I'm so terrible that the distance doesn't matter. I would only be using this to see whose backyard my ball is in or whose window I've broken.

It is very helpful when lasering everything. Having feedback for knowing what to hit or what you just tried to hit is a must if you want to dial in/improve your game/better your score. I use a watch but lately I've just been using memory for score/strokes and my laser for everything up to 25 yards
