Yes, this is used with the headphones. You can also pair this with their DAC for a cleaner upscaling of audio. Typically, high end headphones (and I don't mean Bose, Beats or AirPod max) benefit from this device.

I have a Magni/Modi Schiit stack for my HD650 headphones and they do the job really well! Honestly, for a majority of people that's enough. I assume the Magni Heretic is also quality, but I don't own that particular one.

These are great little devices. I have one for connecting a RPi Volumio setup to my stereo in conjunction with a Schiit DAC. And, I gave another to a friend who wanted a small setup for her turntable. A short Schiit stack takes up way less room and sounds great! Thanks OP!
