I actually downvoted this because the "I wouldn't opt for an i5" take is kind of a tired shortcut.
On PassMark, the i5-1145G7 scores 9,257 CPU Mark, while the common T14 Gen 2 upgrades like i7-1165G7 and i7-1185G7 are 9,847 and 10,019. That's roughly a 6-8% bump, not some night-and-day "longevity" difference.
Single-thread is even closer: 2,679 (i5-1145G7) vs 2,739 (i7-1165G7) vs 2,767 (i7-1185G7).
Also, in this exact laptop line, Lenovo lists these as the same class of 11th-gen chips (all 4 cores / 8 threads) with mostly clocks/cache differences.
And more broadly, "i5 is bad" as a blanket statement is misleading anyway. A newer i3-N305 can beat an older desktop i7-7700 on PassMark (9,582 vs 8,637), so the badge alone isn't a professional way to judge performance.
For this T14 Gen 2 config (16GB RAM + SSD), the CPU is not the weak link for "web browsing/school/Office" or even plenty of heavier multitasking. The practical longevity factors are more like battery health, thermals, RAM/SSD capacity, and overall condition - not the i5 label.

Also, a non-replaceable battery, no touch screen, and runs either MacOS or a few rather estoteric distros of Linux.
I've seen better deals than this one, but one of the advantages of a corporate laptop is usually replaceable parts

Solid machine for web browsing/school/light work apps like office. I refurbish and sell these as business seconds locally on marketplace. Not sure I would personally ever opt for an I5 for longevity and power user apps but 10,000 times better than any new Chromebook at this price.

For what it's worth, I just got a dell latitude 7420 with the same chip/specs for $110 on eBay. No warranty, but a touch laptop with this chip can be found for way cheaper

At this price point, y'all better be bringing a 16:10 1920x1200 display to the table -- or better. Otherwise, go home. It's 2026. 16:9 panels are not worth your time. And it's a business class machine, so major yikes.I can nab the same 16gb/256gb specs on a used/refurb Macbook Air M1 -- a machine that sips power, has a MUCH nicer keyboard and trackpad, is thinner, and has a very nice 2560x1600 16:10 display.

Local sellers on craigslist and whatnot. You can easily nab 8gb/256gb ones on here, just do a slickdeals search and they'll show up. And it's a 13.3" screen -- which I'd happily take .7" smaller 16:10 2.5k screen over a weak-sauce 16:9 basic HD panel. But hey, if size matters more to you honey....
So no link then. I also would suggest magic beans for someone who is looking for a cheap ladder but you're gonna have to look for them on Craigslist. Trust me bro, you'll find some on there.
