The Fire TV Stick 4K Max stands out for keeping Android based Fire TV OS support, including Developer Mode, Downloader, and sideloading through Apps from Unknown Sources. It also adds Wi Fi 6E and access to Amazon Luna games at no extra charge, which makes it appealing for streaming and casual gaming. The main drawbacks are Amazon's tighter control, with updates blocking third party launchers and reducing customization while the interface fills with ads. Promo pricing also appears account dependent, so the deal may not apply everywhere, making it a practical pick if those limits do not matter.
Common Questions (4)
Amazon updates can block ADB and third-party launchers, forcing the Amazon launcher instead. That reduces customization and adds more ads, so it is a downside if you want to run a custom launcher like Projectivy.
Yes. This 4K Max 2nd gen is still Android-based on Fire TV OS 8.1.4.9, so Developer Options, Apps from Unknown Sources, and the Downloader app still work. That makes it usable for third-party APKs, unlike the newer Vega OS-based 4K Select.
The deal is higher than a July 2025 price of $25. One account was eligible for the $30 promo price, but another attempt on 1/2/2026 returned "The promotional code you entered cannot be applied to your purchase."
Yes, Amazon Luna games are included at no additional charge, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was specifically mentioned as part of the offer. That makes the stick more appealing if you want casual cloud gaming alongside streaming.
