I've yet to qualify for these 4k max deals... wonder since we already have one. Might be for users that don't.

Are people still buying fire sticks with Amazon blocking 3rd party apps now?

Think this one doesn't have the blocking if I'm not mistaken

I'm really curious why people would even want a Firestick anymore seeing how Amazon keeps updating them and killing customization. I've been using Google TV and been happy keeping my Projectivy launcher running consistently.

I've never heard of the projectivy launcher. Thanks!

Doesn't work for me but I think for the people in the US the Onn Plus might be a better option.

According to the product listing, this model is FTV Stick 4K Max 2nd gen

One of the reviews has a snapshot of the Updates tab with model info, and it shows "Fire TV OS version 8.1.4.9". That's still Android-based and allows installation from unknown sources (aka: side-loading)

[Fire OS 8.1.4.9 (Android-based): Sideloading is possible through the standard method of enabling "Developer Options" and then "Apps from Unknown Sources" in the settings.]
[Vega OS (Linux-based): The newer Fire TV Stick 4K Select uses Vega OS and has removed the "Apps from Unknown Sources" option. It cannot run standard Android APK files (.apk extensions). It uses Vega OS specific apps (.vpkg extensions)]

Yes, they all are under amerzons control and snooping. They are actively used in identifying what you watch, and provide that info to any one who needs the info.

Get some thing else if you want to actually own the device and your data. I trust the china boxes more than the these guys. You say you don't care about side loading? fine, but do you value your privacy? Get a Apple box then because they seem to protect that. Skrewgle and amershawn are getting your info one way or the other..

BTW, I have owned every scamerzon box ever made except the 3rd gen cube. It took them years before we had a device that had more than 8gb storage (4 useable). It took years of complaining, and a lot of folks jumped on the max and cube models to get anything more than the 8gb. Now it is a curse if you are being monitored and reported. Just say No.. BTW this includes the screwgle tv os as well.

Some models of early ONN boxes are rootable and have custom firmware that you as a owner control so you dont have to go the china box route or you can get a Raspberry pi and put linage on it, but that requires a learning curve that seems ridicules, but that is where we are at today..

I'm not worried about them seeing what I watch, if you're using streaming apps, they have that information anyway, along with your TV manufacturer (unless you disable WiFi). I care about convenience, easy to use interface, and the ability to use Kodi (getting that on Apple TV is a lot of extra work). As for this deal, I have the coupon on my account, and I have purchased 2 of these on similar sales before.

Has anyone compared the Onn streaming device or Roku streaming with Amazon Fire TV Stick?

Amazon Luna games if you are interested. For example, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is included at no additional charge on Luna. That's why I ordered mine even though I am happy with my Google TV.
