The HD 560S are open back wired headphones tuned for detailed, analytical listening, with strong directionality for PC and FPS gaming and clear vocals. They are comfortable for all day wear, easy to EQ, and can run from a PC or a small amp without much trouble. The sound leans bright and bass light, so bass lovers may want EQ, and the open back design lets in outside noise. At around this price, they stand out as a strong value for gaming and casual critical listening.

Common Questions (5)

  • At around $75, several comments treat it as a strong bargain for a comfortable, durable headphone with easy EQ and good gaming performance. A few open-box orders were also reported as cancelled or dead on arrival, so condition and fulfillment are the main risks.

  • It is generally described as brighter and less veiled than the HD6XX, with a sound that is very similar to the SHP9500/9600 but a touch warmer and with a bit more bass. Compared with the K702, it is closer in presentation and is often favored for analytical listening.

  • It is often treated as an analytical headphone with a neutral-leaning tuning, but one comment says it is better suited to audio production than everyday listening while another says it is too bass-light and rolled off in the highs for production work. For casual listening, EQ can help if you want more bass.

  • It can run directly from a PC without an amp. Some users still pair it with a small amp or DAC/amp for extra headroom, but it is not required for basic use.

  • Yes. The open-back design gives strong directionality and makes enemy footsteps and positional cues easy to hear in FPS games, but outside noise will also come through.

The harman curve is a standard for everyday listening, so I'm not sure why you're saying they're for audio production specifically.

Probably prefers Sony or apple tuning.

This is the way. I like my 599 with EQ. Not to mention my 620S.

Yeah that's my assumption at this point. Still, awesome deal for someone! Been thinking about getting a nice open-back headset to pair with my Sony system to listen after 10pm. The basic gaming headsets I have don't do it justice.

If you can find a good deal on some 599s they are pretty solid

I have these, the directionality for PC gaming is great. You will need to adjust equalizer settings if you like more bass forward sound

I have the K702s I got at guitar center for 99? I love the AKGs for gaming used them on my gaming rig. I use a Fosi tube amp to make the profile a bit warmer as the AKGs are a bit bright. I also pump the bass up a bit, the AKGs EQ well and are comfy. Sound stage can't be beat for the price especially for positional audio.

For work and my first pair of Sennheiser's I got the HD 6XX. Initially there is something called the veil, you have to get used too. Coming from brighter headphones there is a sort of blanket on the sound profile. Initially this took some getting used too but I prefer to wear the HD6XX all day as its a more personal and warmer sound. They also don't need too much power to drive.

So I'd imagine these 560S are more for casual listening and have a similar sound profile. At this price I'd bite if I didn't already have the 6xx. I think you'll enjoy both if you have them. Sort of like wearing a different outfit for different occasions.
