Consider getting a charging grip instead. Even though this is a good price. With a charging grip, you get the same controller grip but with a USB c port to charge both joycons while attached

Consider getting a charging grip instead. Even though this is a good price. With a charging grip, you get the same controller grip but with a USB c port to charge both joycons while attached

But then you'd be tied down to the USB cable.. at 2-4x the price of this...

I have one with the charging port, the point isn't to be tied down via the USB cable, it allows you to charge it while not playing then just unplug and use it like a wireless controller. No need to slip the joycons in and out after every gaming session. I love mine that has the charging port.

Everyone has different needs. For some that might have just one pair of joy-cons what you state makes it more convenient. For others that have multiple sets of joy-cons the will just switch to a set that is already charged and put the one that just ran out of battery to charge while they continue playing. So, while having the USB-C charging options makes more sense, I still understand why others would go for the cheaper option.
