Since this thread will probably get a lot of views let this be my yearly reminder that when it comes to the desktop/download version, virtually no one needs anything other than Turbotax Deluxe.

TT strongly pushes Premier and Home & Business but the fact is that TT Deluxe can handle every situation that these more expensive versions can. The only exception that I am aware of is the ability to create W2 and 1099 forms for employees in H&B.

Deluxe has everything for all investment types, everything for owners of rental properties, everything for self-employed (1099-NEC/Schedule C filers), everything for those who do itemized deductions.

The higher versions offer more guidance but Deluxe has all the forms required and will still walk you through all of it.

Note that Turbotax Online is completely different, Deluxe Online is purposely limited forcing more complex returns to use the more expenisve Online versions than Deluxe.

Friendly reminder that this now requires Windows 11 and unfortunately will not work on Windows 10.

Or just do freetaxusa and get the same experience on the web for free. I think state is like $15 if you want to do that through them too

IDK why you're getting down votes. I use free tax usa for Fed and my state has it's own site to file for free. Literally free to do my taxes this way.

I've used TurboTax for year-end planning each year since the 1990s. This year, they screwed the pooch. Important sections of Step-by-Step are missing, including Roth conversions, 1099-B, etc. The missing sections are not limited to those impacted by OBBB. And I'll point out their marketing claimed it was up-to-date with latest changes as of early November. I'm not talking about complete enough to file; I'm talking about complete enough to do estimates.

Here we are January 2 and there hasn't been an update since December 17th.

If you didn't know, Intuit (owners of the TurboTax brand) have spent DECADES lobbying the US government to prevent you from filing your taxes for free.

Use FreeTaxUSA online. Same results, cheaper, and no shady lobbyists.

I hate buying TT (which I still do every year) for this reason more than for the cost. As far as FreeTaxUSA at some point it wouldn't be surprising for them to sell it to some other company that now has a treasure trove of advertising data and some of your most personal data.

Did it give you the ability to important last year's return from TurboTax, and do they walk you through everything like TT does? This is meant as a respectful question.

Can use a virtual machine (via virtual box) to run a win 11 vm within win 10. I've got mine set up, but haven't yet put TT '25 on it

Screw TurboTax, they aren't getting another dime from me. I've switched to freetaxusa and it's a lot cheaper and easier
