Since this thread will probably get a lot of views let this be my yearly reminder that when it comes to the desktop/download version, virtually no one needs anything other than Turbotax Deluxe.

TT strongly pushes Premier and Home & Business but the fact is that TT Deluxe can handle every situation that these more expensive versions can. The only exception that I am aware of is the ability to create W2 and 1099 forms for employees in H&B.

Deluxe has everything for all investment types, everything for owners of rental properties, everything for self-employed (1099-NEC/Schedule C filers), everything for those who do itemized deductions.

The higher versions offer more guidance but Deluxe has all the forms required and will still walk you through all of it.

Note that Turbotax Online is completely different, Deluxe Online is purposely limited forcing more complex returns to use the more expenisve Online versions than Deluxe.

Friendly reminder that this now requires Windows 11 and unfortunately will not work on Windows 10.

Or just do freetaxusa and get the same experience on the web for free. I think state is like $15 if you want to do that through them too

Why does Amazon do a physical $10 gift card on this deal versus a digital credit of some sort. Has to be expensive to ship and mail. What am I missing?
This has been common on eBay for a long time. It must be something to do with digital only sales versus physical. As long as they are shipping something physical in retail it isn't an all digital sale.

Yep - I'm not surprised that people are fooled because Intuit's marketing on this is terribly misleading on-purpose, a lot of people think they NEED Premier or H&B when they clearly don't

Then you get some idiot who again parrots the false line that without Premier you have to fill out forms manually which is totally not true, Deluxe has the same complete interview process.

Its probably someone who probably regrets having bought Premier for years and doesn't want to admit that they have been wasting their money all this time, either that or they work for Intuit!
Yup I used to buy Premier for years thinking I needed it for stocks and investments. I switched to Deluxe a couple years ago and haven't had any issues with it. Anyone that buys into Intuit's marketing BS should think twice about what these software companies are doing.

In previous years people have found that a physical gift card makes the purchase not a digital purchase. That means it is not eligible to use No-Rush Shipping and Amazon Day Delivery rewards. Watch, someone will complain about that tomorrow.

One FYI is that this year TT removed the Its deductible from their website. I found it very useful for non-cash charitable donations esp since 2025 has a greater incentive to itemize because of the increased SALT. Next year there is an additional threshold of $2k, so 2025 was the best year to make non-cash donations. H&RB still has their version working.

I have no firsthand experience but Google says"Yes, TurboTax Deluxe Desktop can handle Employee Stock Purchase Plans (ESPP) and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) by allowing users to import 1099-B data from brokerages like Fidelity or E*Trade and adjust the cost basis. It handles these transactions through the "Investment and Savings" section, guiding users to adjust the basis for amounts previously taxed on W-2s. "
That's great. Thank you so much.

Hi fellow tax people.

Will turbotax be able to handle/calculate depreciation values for investment properties? If so which version should be purchased to handle it.

Could you theoretically use Costco's price adjustment policy and buy early?

First rule of a TurboTax slick deal thread is just click the deal and get it. Don't read the comments, never engage just back away after getting your turbo tax deal for the year

This question is too vague to answer. Do you want just the forms or do you want the handholding Q&A? Premier does handholding, deluxe has the forms you can fill out. If you dont understand about the different types of depreciation of stuff and dont want to do research, you can get premier or get a tax advisor, but it is sufficiently complex that you will find premier not sufficient. If you are asking about just depreciating the rental home and not appliances, and other stuff, maybe premier is good enough. but all you need is to take the building value and divide by 27.5 for 1 year or prorate it for 1 year to get the depreciation. Do some research or pay a tax advisor.
