Since this thread will probably get a lot of views let this be my yearly reminder that when it comes to the desktop/download version, virtually no one needs anything other than Turbotax Deluxe.

TT strongly pushes Premier and Home & Business but the fact is that TT Deluxe can handle every situation that these more expensive versions can. The only exception that I am aware of is the ability to create W2 and 1099 forms for employees in H&B.

Deluxe has everything for all investment types, everything for owners of rental properties, everything for self-employed (1099-NEC/Schedule C filers), everything for those who do itemized deductions.

The higher versions offer more guidance but Deluxe has all the forms required and will still walk you through all of it.

Note that Turbotax Online is completely different, Deluxe Online is purposely limited forcing more complex returns to use the more expenisve Online versions than Deluxe.

Friendly reminder that this now requires Windows 11 and unfortunately will not work on Windows 10.

Or just do freetaxusa and get the same experience on the web for free. I think state is like $15 if you want to do that through them too

Download software does not need login:
https://turbotax.intuit.com/perso...-turbotax/

You can give them temp password to login and change back after they activated, so they will not have access to your TT account after activation.

Activation is a 1 time event.

Its been a year but don't you need to login to your TT account a second time when you go to efile your returns as well?

Not for download (which is useless unless activated), only for activation.

Download link is below:

Do I have to setup a TT account to use the TurboTax 2025 Tax Software downloaded from amazon?

That's different from activation. When file, use your OWN TT account. Like I said, activation is a 1 time event.

In theory Fidelity 25% off discount stacked w/ AMEX $20 cashback is a better deal for TT Deluxe ($52.50 - $20 = $32.50).
But I haven't seen anyone post that it actually works or not since AMEX has their own affiliate link. Seriously no one has tried this yet?
It works. $52.50 charge from "INTUIT *TURBOTAX 800-446-8848 CA". And $20 credit from "INTUIT ORDER CHANNELSAN DIEGO" the same day.

Best "hidden" deal to get the software (if one has the Fidelity and AMEX offers) unless one has the "free" Premiere online Fidelity offer (which is actually $5 for Deluxe download).

Ah ok, I know that I needed to login twice, didn't realize that the second login could be different from the one that was used to activate - but that makes sense. Thanks!

Fidelity is most likely Online version and not desktop download.
You can buy the Desktop version with the Fido discount. Click through the link from your Fido account and then go here [intuit.com]. The discount will be applied.

With my 25% discount, Deluxe with Federal & State goes from $70 to $52.50. I have a $20 off Inuit CC deal which would bring it to $32.50 but I have to pay $10 to file my state so the bottom line would be $42.50.

Wrong, Fidelity discount works on desktop version too
Correct. I tried it and it worked for Desktop version. Somehow it force to login to my account though to finish the download order.

Yes, 30% off for me in Fido.

Federal + State Deluxe for 45 - 10 Dollar Amazon GC = 35 is the cheapest its going to get right ?
Can't promise to see the future, but based on past experience (and assuming that the Fidelity free offer is not available to you), the cheapest option would likely be the Fidelity 25% or 30% with a $20 discount from a credit card offer (I had one with Amex and one with US Bank and I hear tell of a BoA offer). That's slightly cheaper than Amazon.
-- However, if you don't want to play the Fidelity/Credit Card game, then based on my past experience, this is the cheapest TurboTax Deluxe is likely to get. There will be cheaper options on HRB (and of course Free Tax USA) but if you are like me and your taxes are sufficiently complicated that you're basically wedded to TurboTax, this is likely the way to do it.
-- Personally, I had more than $45 in no rush shipping credits, so I used that. You can't combine no rush shipping with the gift card, but I'd rather spend $45 in no rush shipping credits than $35 in cash. I just don't have that much other use for no rush shipping credits.

Wrong. TT occasionally asks you to log in to verify activation, like if you want to install new state download. I just updated my 2024 TT software and it asked to login to verify. If you use download software, it doesnt have access to your files sent from your desktop, but you do have access from online submissions.
TT keeps track of the state you downloaded once you register, and you cannot change to another unless you pay for another state.

For all of those a bit confused on how to use the fidelity offer with turbotax download:
- Click on the link from fidelity that will bring you to the turbotax site. It will bring you into some "online" version that you can ignore
- Go to the home page at https://turbotax.intuit.com and select "File your taxes" -> "Other filing options" -> "TurboTax Desktop"
- This will give all of the other options and you should see the original $70 for Deluxe crossed out and replaced with something else. For my 30% off, it was replaced with $49
- Click "Shop Now" and select the right side one (unless you want auto renew etc) and continue through to checkout.

I did this with an Amex card and should hopefully get the $20 off as credit. Hoping that I can dip into the BoA one (custom cash that should cover online shopping) with the additional state purchase that I need.

I have been with HR block for a long time.i got hooked with them because they always are the cheapest...I don't like their UI...a lot of people my family said TT is better and easier. I'm thinking of getting this but I wonder if the deluxe would fit my need? I have stock accounts that I buy and sell a few times during the year...I don't have house to rent out or do any business...Can anyone advise? Thank you
I've used TurboTax for 20+ years and I like the interview style of data entry. It can also download all of your stock trades from most of the financial institutions. Manual entry of stock trades is also pretty straight forward. This post gets you TurboTax Deluxe federal and state for $35, after getting the gift card.

.

With the caveat that I don't have a BoA card so I can't make any guarantees, I do think you should be able to dip into the BoA one, since that will be a separate transaction directly with TurboTax and it should trigger the credit from BoA. In my experience, you don't need the affiliate links in order to get the credit card transactions as long as the transaction is directly with TurboTax and meets the threshold amount.
