Since this thread will probably get a lot of views let this be my yearly reminder that when it comes to the desktop/download version, virtually no one needs anything other than Turbotax Deluxe.

TT strongly pushes Premier and Home & Business but the fact is that TT Deluxe can handle every situation that these more expensive versions can. The only exception that I am aware of is the ability to create W2 and 1099 forms for employees in H&B.

Deluxe has everything for all investment types, everything for owners of rental properties, everything for self-employed (1099-NEC/Schedule C filers), everything for those who do itemized deductions.

The higher versions offer more guidance but Deluxe has all the forms required and will still walk you through all of it.

Note that Turbotax Online is completely different, Deluxe Online is purposely limited forcing more complex returns to use the more expenisve Online versions than Deluxe.

Friendly reminder that this now requires Windows 11 and unfortunately will not work on Windows 10.

Or just do freetaxusa and get the same experience on the web for free. I think state is like $15 if you want to do that through them too

I hate to keep chiming in but people don't know what they don't know. For example, I had a Ready Asset account many years ago. Most people would just declare the interest, which at the time rates were high. But, depending on your state, a percentage of your interest could be exempt from taxes based on several factors including what the fund was invested in. Did I know that, nope. Did my CPA catch it, yes. We had to contact the fund to get the % by state.

A tax accountant can help you reduce taxes by suggesting tax loss harvesting (which I do every year), and DAFs. And god help you if you inherited IRAs and have to take RMDs. The rules are unbelievable. Simple things like contributions to 401ks, Roths, Simple IRAs, not all people are well versed on these topics and their benefits.

You need a financial advisor/planner more than an account if you can do tax loss harvesting every year.

I have financial advisors with a well known brokerage firm but they keep pushing me to have my taxes prepared by a CPA. Financial advisors can only give limited tax planning advice. I used a CPA forever but decided to try TurboTax, which I've used for several years.

Why is everyone pushing FreeTaxUSA - besides the fact that Intuit lobbies, or that it's free (for federal)?

I tested it last year, and the experience was nowhere near as good as TurboTax even without AI.

For 2025, Turbotax has Intuit AI Assist. FreeTaxUSA has no AI in the product. That alone is worth the $20 price difference.

Because you're on a deal site full of frugally-minded folks, so free rightly gets their attention. And, for many, with simple fillings, they've been doing it for years without AI just fine.

It's $39 price difference (assuming you have a credit card that can get you $5 back on the state fee with Intuit, otherwise the difference is $44)

This is the product itself, excluding $10 Amazon GC.
This is only showing the product for me, no $10 gift card. Was that deal discontinued?

Same here. Still waiting for almost 2 days since receiving the Order Shipped email.
Same here. Ordered Friday night and still waiting on Sunday. Wife called Costco and they told her that there's an issue with TurboTax itself and getting it delivered. Told her they'd get back to her in two days if we haven't received yet. It's a digital product. Not sure what the issue is.

I ordered my Costco Turbotax a few days ago and did not yet receive the code via email. Last year it was almost instantaneous. What am I missing? .

So is walking, so don't buy a car. And so is rainwater, so don't buy beverages at the supermarket.

But like everything in the world, you have no idea if the accountant is doing anything right. After my father passed, we found out the accountant he was using made numerous mistakes and we had to pay huge penalties to the IRS. Most people who use an accountant don't even bother to look at anything except the amount the accountant says to pay (and in many cases, they just have it withdrawn from their bank account, so they don't even look at that.)

Check your spam folder? I ordered yesterday too and received the code within an hour.

Sorry to hear that. The accountant you used could have been held liable for their mistakes.

I had a CPA in another state handling an estate and she had to contact the IRS regarding a discrepancy in the estate tax return after we received a letter about a large amount owed. Evidently she explained it to them and it was dropped.

My CPA always required me to review my returns and acknowledge they were correct before they were e-filed, and then I would begrudgingly pay the taxes. I agree with you, I'm sure most people just trust the returns were prepared correctly.
