Would that be a better laptop to buy instead of this one? It was $1,200 before.

Well, I have last year's model with i9-14900HX, 32 GB, RTX 4070, and a 1600p 240 Hz IPS screen; just like the other guy mentioned in the post, it runs so hot on gaming and hot even with slight usage due to Intel's last-gen inefficient chips. The model of this year solves the issue of high temperature and runs so much cooler, gets lighter, and has an extremely reflective OLED screen instead of IPS, and the battery life still sucks hard. Something interesting to mention: performance on the new model's quiet mode matches last year's best performance mode, plus noise, plus the high temp! The new model is the way to go, but you have to deal with reflective OLED and the same bad battery life. If you have extra money to spare, maybe the Zephyrus G16 is a better all-around laptop, but it's much more pricey.
Yeah man can't deal with the price but I can deal with the bad battery life. Yeah. Anyways i'm planning to use this as both workstation and heavy gaming load, cuz i want to any game without fact it won't run on the device.

Pulled the trigger on this since it seemed to be a decent deal on a midrange gaming laptop, which is exactly what I was looking for. The 5060 should handle World of Warcraft easily. Thanks OP!

Right now I have this god awful 16 inch Omen with ultra 7 155h with arc and cannot play games without heavy glitching.

Can someone tell me if I buy this how long can i play FIFA EA FC series games without glitching? I dont even need 4k, 2k max is enough for gaming for me

did you use silent mode or balanced?
Of course I did lol, I tried everything. Even running Intel XTU or throttlestop didn't help much when doing an aggressive undervolt. If you re-read my comment it says that even on quiet mode (the "silent" mode you mentioned) it ran hot. So yes I did use all of the modes and tried to make it as efficient as I could to no avail.. I'm just happy that my 10th gen runs amazingly cool. Only thing that runs worse on this laptop is CS2 for some reason, but I'm using that as a reason to stop gaming..

Yesterday I was editing and encoding a bunch of videos using handbrake, which is very intensive work. While also casting a second screen to my tablet and watching videos on that while I waited for the videos to finish. And the keyboard was as warm under load as my Gen 9 was when just watching a simple Youtube video. Lovely!!!

From the looks of it the next generation Intel Core Ultra 300 series is looking to be like 50% more power efficient which is insane.

Unless you're addicted to the color or consider it an alternative to the Zephyrus G16, it's a hard buy. I have the last-year model, btw.
The other laptop that cost $1000 more is black. Got it.

I'm sorry that's been your experience. I have the same laptop as you but with the 4090 and I can game for hours without it getting very hot. The keyboard gets a little warmish but that's it.

Bought this to replace my Gen 9 and it runs SOOOOOOOO much cooler. Like holy shhh it's a night and day difference. I do miss the 240hz refresh rate, I miss the lights on the back that show the power adapter and I also don't like that I had to lose a USBC port on the right side.

But ultimately the 14700HX was just terribly inefficient and annoying to deal with. The OLED looks dope and the weight difference is noticeable. But above all, this laptop rarely ever runs hot. Whereas the Gen 9 ran hot all the time, even just watching youtube videos and browsing the internet.
i got the gen 9 and you're making me jelly beyond belief. FrownFrownFrownFrown. oh well. that's life. i was in a life crisis and couldn't wait longer for a better version. it happens to me every upgrade cycle too. last time i bought the last duo core cpu before they all went quad core. then after that i bought the last quad core. and now i bought the last hot cpu. what the f?

Indeed. Insane prices will come down when insane people stop paying them.

That's true across the economy.

If people stop being gouged, inventories will surge, sales will plummet, and retailers and manufacturers will be forced to adjust pricing down to compensate.

My suspicion is as much of the inflation is opportunism as it was structural...basically companies just brazenly raising prices believing consumers will accept it, and they did, and that happened everywhere and continued until recently.

A self fulfilling prophecy fueled by greedy corporations mixed with ignorant consumers/voters with zero self control and a bloated corrupt government that's printed dollars to oblivion = insane prices.
My thoughts exactly. Great post.
