I would think that most people who need to file federal taxes in the United States also need to file state taxes.
There are 9 states without income tax. In addition, some states income tax forms are very easy to fill out, so easy that the using tax software takes longer that doing with the state's forms or website.

I'd hope those people from those nine states would know better Wink

But if I'm typing everything into H&R Block Federal once, I don't really have to do anything for the state. The extra $5 to not have to type anything at all or do any math at all for my state (and then double-checking it) seems worth $5 to me, it's basically File->Print.

Michigan is considered one of the easier ones (says google) and it's worth it to me.

---

That said, I feel like at this point there should be some way for me to sign into my state's system and upload a PDF of my H&R Block's printout and not have to mail it. Seems like the state would prefer it already digital (instead of them having to deal with envelopes), they're doing it for free with paper copies (and people's messy writing) seems a few steps quicker for digital...

This is why the state of New York barred tax companies from charging extra for e-file. A PDF upload option seems like a no brainer though.

I'm not buying until W2 is out. It's never gone up in price the later it gets, from my observations.

HR Block never had a decent sale last year so I switched (I think lots of others did too). I agree that Free tax USA is easy to use and have a business. HR Block hurt themselves a bit last year in my opinion as I don't think people who left will be going back.
They did not deduction form for charger year ago or so . It was so risky to use them . Quicken and others had had it .

This post is about H&R Block tax software. I really wish these FreeTax fanboy people would take a hike and stop with the useless thread crapping testimonials in every HR Block deal. Just my opinion.
Why? We are just saying there is an alternative out there that isn't software that is backed by who knows how many lobbyists making it a PITA and expensive to get taxes done.

I used to use H&R every year off deals I got on SD. I tried FTUSA one year just to see what it's like. Haven't looked back since.

Free Tax USA https://www.freetaxusa.com/ is free for federal and state is only $15.99. Not only much less expensive but I find it easier to use, even for a small business.
This is the real deal folks. Stop throwing money away on HRBlock and Turbo tax.

Even moreso by helping to stop supporting companies spending ungodly amounts of $ on lobbyists making taxes unnecessaryily complex and expensive. Moved to FTUSA years ago and hoping they don't sell out. Time will tell

I've been looking into TurboTax alternatives. I've stuck with it because my taxes weren't simple with stocks and rental income. Didn't want to waste time trying something different to find out it wasn't as useful and then going back to TurboTax anyway. My taxes this year will be a lot simpler. I googled some review sites that compared FreeTaxUSA with TurboTax. Looks like I'll be using FreeTaxUSA this year. Even if it contains fewer features, it shouldn't matter much since I don't have rental income anymore. fark TurboTax, btw. I'd rather we didn't have to use any software to file taxes. To those people defending these billion-dollar corporations that lobby politicians to keep the status quo, these billionaires don't care about you.

Just buy it and stop stressing over saving maybe 2 bucks when it may go up not down like last year. Another bonus is not having to wade thru the posts by the annoying FreeTax fanboys anymore until next year.

Is deluxe good enough for doing taxes for a business. I have an Airbnb and I think last year I used premium but not sure if I needed to Get the premium version.
I do independent consulting and it's fine for that.
