Maybe I'm old school, but I prefer a joystick. During the early pandemic, I modded one of the 8Bitdo NES themed arcade sticks with upgraded buttons. It was fun for a minute.

So is it geared towards PC crowd here?

All button controllers are also an accessibility tool for gaming.

Reviews reveal a lot of issues around firmware/software. It cannot be used in tournaments. This seems to be due to 8bitdo's incompetence or malfeasance. I thought I might get this, but it seems incredible to me that a basic box with buttons could have any problems.

I own one and have had zero issues. Also used it in a tournament, there's a button that allows you to set it to tournament compatibility. Not sure what the reviews are saying or talking about.

If I get the Brooks FCG2 and this, would this work on the PS5?
Update: after doing some research apparently this will work with the PS5 with the FCG2 from brooks.

I see that this controller directional inputs emulate dpad. Just so you know if you need movement with control stick as in smash this may not work

I think the PC crowd would prefer actual keyboard keys, and I believe they do make those. I also prefer a joystick, but some moves are faster for me with the smaller directional keys. The large directional buttons here are probably for accessibility like the other person mentioned.

Just because I don't know enough about the requirements of the game I need to ask... Will this be enough to run animal crossing for my disabled daughter? On the switch

The analog stick moves your character in that game, but the D-pad is just for taking out, switching between, and putting away tools which you can do by going in the inventory. So as long as some of the buttons can be mapped to analog stick directions, she should be ok with this.
There's also a Switch 2 upgrade coming out for $5 in about 10 days along with a huge free content update, which my own daughter is very excited about.

I'm in the same boat but I do want to try one of these. I used to play zangief a lot though and doing a full rotation on this seems a bit more tedious than whipping a joystick around

I highly recommend it. After a bit of gameplay and practice a 360 or 720 on a hitbox style controller like this can even be more consistent than a ball top. I would strongly recommend you don't use a mixbox controller though. Those are excellent for charge characters, but I can't do 360s well on them mixboxes at all.
