Change your expired account's phone number to something else before creating a new account.
Reason: If/when you need to access your new account via their kiosk, online, or via any cashier entering your phone number (how they look you up) you may have or create problems.
If you tell a cashier your number and they say: Wow you have 15 accounts, which one? And you will need them to find the currently active one (for example).
Then you need to figure out which one to tell them to use and they may report you for scamming thier system.
Regardless, it is good housekeeping to have only one account linked to your main phone number at a time.
Next thing that is the best to do is use either a virtual card that expires or has a low limit, or a MC/VS gift card with a low balance. This way, in addition to setting yourself a calendar reminder to quit (do not cancel until you are in the last free month), you have a failsafe to avoid getting renewed at full price.
1) Set a calendar reminder that once you have started your final free month's cycle, you can cancel weeks before it lapses, and it will continue to be active through the current monthly cycle you are in.
2) Use a virtual card with a small limit and/or an early exp date so they cannot charge you, even if you forget to cancel.
3)OR use a small balance MC/VS gift card. I keep a couple of those around for this purpose.
You can get them for no fee when Staples etc offers that deal. I believe they currently have Fee Free MCs?
Plus I earn 5% CB or points when buying them, from the Office Supply category spend with my Chase Ink CC, or my Amex Simply Cash Business card.
